We are currently seeking an HVAC Startup Technician IV. The HVAC Technician in the Start-Up & Warranty department is responsible for the installation, start-up, and maintenance of HVAC systems in newly constructed commercial buildings. This role involves conducting system tests, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring that HVAC systems are running efficiently after installation. Additionally, the HVAC Technician provides post-installation warranty support, ensuring that HVAC systems are operating according to specifications and performing necessary adjustments or repairs as required. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, experience in HVAC systems, and a commitment to ensuring client satisfaction through the performance of quality work. The core areas of responsibility are listed below, however other duties and responsibilities may be required to meet business needs and objectives.
Level 4 Technician:
• Expert-level HVAC Technician with extensive experience in start-up and warranty services for complex HVAC systems.
• Acts as a subject matter expert for HVAC troubleshooting and system optimization, offering guidance and solutions for the most challenging issues.
• Plays a key role in mentoring and training less experienced technicians and ensuring best practices for HVAC installation and maintenance are followed across the team.
• Coordinates closely with the Start-Up & Warranty Manager to improve processes, address systemic issues, and optimize service delivery.
Core Areas:
Installation Start-Up and Testing:
• Perform start-up procedures on HVAC systems after installation, including checking electrical components, system controls, and refrigeration processes.
• Test HVAC systems to ensure they are operating according to design specifications and manufacturer guidelines.
• Monitor system performance to verify proper air flow, temperature control, and energy efficiency.
Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving:
• Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with HVAC systems during start-up and warranty periods.
• Perform routine maintenance, including filter replacements, system inspections, and refrigerant checks, to ensure continued optimal performance.
• Work with the Start-Up & Warranty Manager to resolve more complex issues, offering recommendations for necessary repairs or adjustments.
Warranty and Post-Installation Support:
• Respond to warranty service requests, performing repairs or adjustments as needed based on manufacturer specifications and customer requirements.
• Document work completed and submit detailed reports on service calls, including any parts or systems replaced, service actions taken, and follow-up steps.
• Communicate effectively with customers regarding system performance, service recommendations, and warranty coverage.
Quality Control and Compliance:
• Ensure that HVAC systems meet company standards for quality, safety, and performance before final acceptance.
• Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, safe working environment during installations and service calls.
• Ensure compliance with local building codes, regulations, and HVAC industry standards during start-up procedures and service activities.
Collaboration and Coordination:
• Work closely with the Start-Up & Warranty Manager to coordinate work orders, parts, and schedules for each project.
• Collaborate with project managers and other field staff to ensure the timely completion of HVAC systems and warranty services.
• Provide feedback on system performance to the project team, offering insights on design improvements or potential issues for future installations.
Customer Relations:
• Provide excellent customer service by answering client questions, offering guidance on system operation, and addressing any concerns regarding HVAC performance.
• Communicate clearly with clients about system warranties, expected maintenance schedules, and any follow-up steps after installation or repair.
Required Skills and Abilities:
• In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, including electrical components, refrigeration cycles, and controls.
• Ability to troubleshoot HVAC issues and perform diagnostic tests using specialized equipment.
• Strong communication skills, particularly with clients, regarding service recommendations and system performance.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and installation guides.
• Familiarity with local building codes, industry standards, and HVAC regulations.
• Proficiency with HVAC tools and diagnostic equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in HVAC or related field preferred.
• 7-10+ years of experience working as an HVAC Technician, including experience with start-ups and warranty services.
• EPA certification for handling refrigerants (required).
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
• NATE certification or similar HVAC industry certifications.
• Experience with commercial HVAC systems and large-scale installations.
• Familiarity with project management and scheduling software used in the construction industry
