Toledo Tool & Die is adding a Weld & Assembly Superintendent to our team to support our continued growth.

Hours are typically:

3rd shift, 9:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Weekend and holiday coverage is required as needed to support plant operations.

WHAT MAKES YOU A GREAT FIT FOR THIS POSITION:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead welding and assembly operations across multiple production lines on the assigned shift, including robotic and manual welding, joining, and final assembly.
• Serve as the senior manager on site during the assigned off shift, with authority to make production, quality, safety, and personnel decisions across the facility in the absence of the Plant and Operations Managers.
• Make timely, independent decisions to address production disruptions, equipment failures, quality concerns, staffing gaps, and safety events. Escalate to the Operations Manager when warranted.
• Meet production schedules while maintaining safety, product quality, efficiency, and cost objectives.
• Monitor and improve performance against KPIs, including safety, quality, delivery, productivity, scrap, and downtime.
• Coordinate with Production Control to adjust staffing and resources based on production demand and customer requirements.
• Ensure standardized work, work instructions, and process controls are followed and continuously improved.
• Oversee robotic and manual weld cells, ensuring weld processes run to standard and cells meet cycle-time and uptime targets.
• Ensure weld quality and process parameters, including weld schedules, current, pressure, and cycle times for resistance/spot and MIG/robotic welding, are controlled and maintained to print and customer specifications.
• Partner with Maintenance and Engineering to improve weld cell uptime and address robot and weld-gun performance, tip dressing, electrode maintenance, weld fixtures, and consumable management.
• Directly supervise Weld and Assembly Supervisors and Team Leaders, setting clear expectations and holding teams accountable for performance.
• Coach and develop leadership staff, conduct evaluations, address performance issues, and support disciplinary actions as needed.
• Ensure effective training, cross-training, and succession planning within weld and assembly operations.
• Foster a positive employee relations environment consistent with company values.
• Ensure compliance with IATF 16949, customer-specific requirements, company quality standards, and applicable process controls.
• Partner with Quality to investigate and resolve internal and external quality issues, customer complaints, and corrective actions.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, Materials, HR, and Supply Chain to support plant objectives.
• Support new product launches, line transfers, and process changes within weld and assembly operations.
• Participate in safety investigations, implement corrective actions, and enforce safety procedures and required PPE.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas and ensure environmental practices are carried out in accordance with company requirements.
• Ensure company human resources, ethics, and labor policies are followed within the scope of the position.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

 Minimum requirements

• 8 or more years of manufacturing experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role within an automotive welding and assembly environment.
• Demonstrated experience managing multiple production lines on a single shift.
• Experience in a Tier 1 or Tier 2 automotive supplier environment.
• Hands-on knowledge of resistance/spot and MIG/robotic welding processes, weld quality requirements, and weld inspection methods.
• Experience working within IATF 16949 and customer-specific quality systems.
• Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement tools.
• Familiarity with high-volume, mixed-model welding and assembly operations.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, make independent decisions, and take ownership with limited direction.
• Strong communication, organizational, and computer skills, including Microsoft Office.

Preferred qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.
• Experience with weld process validation, PPAP, and destructive or non-destructive weld testing.
