Position Summary: 

 The Rigger I is responsible for planning, directing, and executing complex rigging and lifting operations involving heavy equipment, machinery, structural components, and oversized loads. This position serves as the subject matter expert for all rigging activities, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, engineering requirements, and company standards. The Rigger I provides leadership, technical guidance, and training to rigging personnel while coordinating with project managers, supervisors, crane operators, and site management to safely complete lifting operations.

Essential Functions:Plan and oversee all rigging and lifting operations, including critical and complex lifts.

• Review lift plans, engineering drawings, load charts, and project specifications.
• Determine proper rigging methods, equipment selection, and load weight calculations.
• Inspect, select, and approve rigging gear including slings, shackles, hooks, spreader bars, chain falls, come-alongs, and specialty lifting equipment.
• Coordinate lifting activities with crane operators, project managers, supervisors, and safety personnel.
• Conduct pre-lift meetings and job hazard analyses (JHAs).
• Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.
• Monitor load stability, rigging angles, center of gravity calculations, and lifting conditions.
• Train, mentor, and evaluate riggers and signal persons.
• Investigate incidents, near misses, or equipment failures and recommend corrective actions.
• Maintain rigging inspection records, certifications, and lifting documentation.
• Verify all lifting equipment is properly inspected, tagged, and maintained.
• Assist in developing site-specific lift procedures and safety programs.
• Stop work when unsafe conditions or practices are identified.
•  Performs other duties as required by management.  

Required Skills:

• Advanced knowledge of rigging principles, load calculations, and lifting practices.
• Experience coordinating complex or critical lift operations.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, load charts, and engineered lift plans.
• Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and safe lifting standards.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to work in industrial, construction, marine, manufacturing, or outdoor environments.
• Proficient in documenting inspections, lift plans, and safety reports.
• Must be able to work at heights of 20 ft. or higher.  
• Must have ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor 
• Must adhere to ISO and OSHA policies established by FMSNA and have high values for safety awareness 

Education and Experience:

• Minimum of 5 years of rigging experience
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CDL License (preferred) 
• (3) years of relevant marine experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Standard Items preferred

Physical Demands and Work Environment
While performing job duties, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand or walk; use hands and arms to grasp, handle, manipulate, or feel objects and controls; stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch; and speak or hear. The employee may lift and/or move up to 35lbs regularly and up to 50lbs occasionally. Work is performed both inside and outside in varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, wet, humid, dry, and arid climates. The employee may also be required to work in confined spaces and at varying heights. Frequent use of PPE is required to minimize noise exposure, moving machinery, weather elements, and other potential hazards, including the risk of injury.
