General Purpose

The Shift Manager is responsible for leading shifts, supporting daily operations, and ensuring exceptional guest service. This role works alongside the management team to coach and develop hourly team members while maintaining high standards of hospitality, food safety, and operational excellence.

The ideal candidate has restaurant experience and is passionate about developing others, creating memorable guest experiences, and leading by example.

Essential Duties

  • Lead shifts by setting the tone for hospitality, teamwork, and execution.
  • Support training, and development of hourly team members.
  • Provide real-time coaching and feedback to ensure team members meet company standards.
  • Ensure every guest receives exceptional service and a memorable experience.
  • Address guest concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Assist with cash handling procedures and ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Maintain food safety standards and ensure proper sanitation procedures are followed.
  • Monitor product levels and communicate product needs to management.
  • Respond to immediate store needs and troubleshoot operational challenges.
  • Reinforce company policies, procedures, and programs to keep Sonny’s a great place to work.
  • Serve as the go-to support for team members during the shift.
  • Communicate shift performance and opportunities to the General Manager or Assistant Manager.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a restaurant environment; leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of hospitality and guest service principles.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and cash handling procedures.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to motivate and coach others.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Attend and successfully complete any required training or certification programs.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Ability to speak and read English and interpret safety rules and procedure manuals.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Solid time management and organizational skills.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Ability to complete checklists and routine documentation accurately.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand for prolonged periods and work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Exposure to temperatures between 0°F and 100°F.
  • May inhale smoke from a wood-burning cooker.
