Spotlight Events, Inc. is an employee-owned (ESOP), a purpose-driven organization headquartered in Eagle, Idaho. For nearly three decades, our brands—Spotlight Dance Cup and LEAP National Dance Competition—have stood at the forefront of the competitive dance industry, producing approximately 90 events in 30 states and 50+ cities annually.

Position Overview

The Production Technician supports the setup, operation, and troubleshooting of all technical elements for Spotlight and LEAP events. This includes lighting, audio, video, stage equipment, and media systems. The role requires collaboration with vendors, venue staff, and fellow event personnel to ensure reliable and high-quality technical execution throughout each event.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up, test, and maintain stage, audio, video, lighting, and computer systems
• Troubleshoot technical systems across performance spaces and retail areas
• Coordinate with staging and lighting vendors to ensure proper configuration
• Partner with venue staff to meet technical requirements for space and equipment
• Support security and ensure a safe event environment
• Manage truck loading and unloading and assist with staff meal procurement
• Capture and audit critique videos during events, ensuring accurate backups
• Provide occasional support as Announcer or Video Specialist as scheduled
• Manage crew meal logistics, including menu selection and ordering

Key Qualifications & Competencies

• Prior experience in technical support, live production, or event AV setups
• Training or education in theater technology, broadcasting, or related fields (Preferred)
• Experience with lighting, audio, and multimedia systems in live-event environments (Preferred)
• Experience in technical theater, broadcasting, or film/TV, with knowledge of lighting, sound, and media workflows
• Proficiency in mixing live audio on analog consoles and managing microphones
• Basic networking and computer troubleshooting experience
• Familiarity with video systems and software
• Knowledge of Microsoft Windows OS and MS Office Suite
• Strong problem-solving skills, flexibility, and ability to work under pressure

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Travel is required during our event season (January–July), and team members must reside within reasonable proximity to a U.S. international airport or hub to accommodate frequent travel.

On average, the role involves attending approximately 6–10 regional events each year, typically lasting 3–5 days, with the possibility of 1–2 national events lasting 6–8 days. 

Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds, setting up equipment, and working in a variety of environments, such as event venues, hotels, and stages. Staff members must also be comfortable sharing hotel accommodations with same-gender colleagues during event assignments.

Mock Training: All new/first year event staff are required to attend an audition and training session in Eagle, Idaho (Typically hosted January 4th–8th). Spotlight provides flights, transport, lodging, and meals. Travel may occur one day before or after the scheduled dates.
