Spotlight Events, Inc. is an employee-owned (ESOP), a purpose-driven organization headquartered in Eagle, Idaho. For nearly three decades, our brands—Spotlight Dance Cup and LEAP National Dance Competition—have stood at the forefront of the competitive dance industry, producing approximately 90 events in 30 states and 50+ cities annually.

Position Overview

The Announcer provides professional voice talent and audience engagement at live dance competitions. This role ensures smooth event flow, delivers entertaining commentary, and manages music playback during performances. Working closely with Stage Managers, Technical Assistants, and other event staff, the Announcer is essential to creating an exciting, polished audience experience while representing Spotlight’s brand with excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute announcements and manage music playback for each performance
• Communicate schedule changes and PSAs to keep attendees informed
• Provide engaging dialogue and professional representation as the voice of Spotlight Events, Inc
• Collaborate with the Stage Manager to maintain smooth performance order
• Manage client music files for optimum playback quality
• Ensure proper setup and functionality of analog mixing consoles, microphones and speaker systems

Key Qualifications & Competencies

• Prior experience in live announcing, event hosting, theater, or performance (Required)
• Experience setting up and operating live audio equipment (Preferred)
• Experience in the Dance, Sports or Performing Arts space (Preferred)
• Strong reading and public speaking skills (Required)
• Knowledge of audio playback or live audio mixing on analog consoles (Preferred)
• Ability to troubleshoot live audio and computer systems (Preferred)
• Ability to multi-task and maintain a professional demeanor (Required)
• Demonstrated ability working in a collaborative environment with a team (Required)

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Travel is required during our event season (January–July), and team members must reside within reasonable proximity to a U.S. international airport or hub to accommodate frequent travel.

On average, the role involves attending approximately 6–10 regional events each year, typically lasting 3–5 days, with the possibility of 1–2 national events lasting 6–8 days. 

Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds, setting up equipment, and working in a variety of environments, such as event venues, hotels, and stages. Staff members must also be comfortable sharing hotel accommodations with same-gender colleagues during event assignments.

Mock Training: All new/first year event staff are required to attend an audition and training session in Eagle, Idaho (Typically hosted January 4th–8th). Spotlight provides flights, transport, lodging, and meals. Travel may occur one day before or after the scheduled dates.
