The Junior Assembly Technician learns and performs cable, connector, wiring, and electromechanical assembly under the guidance of experienced technicians and Production supervision. The role develops proficiency in Caton manufacturing methods, workmanship, documentation, and safety, then performs assigned operations with increasing independence as qualifications are demonstrated.

Essential duties and responsibilities

• Follow approved drawings, specifications, work instructions, manufacturing standards, safety requirements, and Caton Quality Management System procedures.
• Perform assigned cable, connector, wiring, and electromechanical assembly operations within current training and qualifications.
• Perform required in-process checks; complete production, quality, and traceability records accurately.
• Maintain required product identification and traceability. Identify and report suspected nonconforming material or abnormal workmanship, equipment, and process conditions.
• Stop and seek direction when requirements are unclear or continued work could affect safety or conformity. Perform rework only under approved instructions and applicable quality procedures.
• Use and care for tools, fixtures, materials, and equipment; maintain an organized workstation and use required personal protective equipment.
• Work with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Materials; participate in training, Tier meetings, workplace organization, and improvement activities as assigned.
• Cut, strip, prepare, solder, crimp, assemble, apply adhesive, or pot components after appropriate training and qualification.
• Read and follow production instructions, drawings, and specifications appropriate to current training; use basic measuring tools and make assigned in-process checks.
• Ask questions and escalate issues instead of changing product or process requirements without authorization.

Entry level expectations

• Learn assigned Caton Manufacturing Standards and progress through the applicable training and competency matrix.
• Accept coaching; develop soldering, crimping, measurement, drawing interpretation, and other required skills.
• Demonstrate increasing ability to produce conforming work and complete documentation with less direction.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous manufacturing experience is not required; hands-on mechanical, electrical, assembly, or manufacturing experience is beneficial.

Required skills and competencies

• Ability to learn hands-on tasks, follow written and verbal directions, and use basic tools after training.
• Manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, reliable attendance, and teamwork.
• Basic computer skills for email, electronic files, and required production records.

Preferred: Familiarity with electrical or mechanical principles, drawings, soldering, crimping, or cable assembly.

Physical requirements

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation. Work regularly involves precise use of hands and fingers on small components; visual attention for detailed assembly and workmanship checks; sitting or standing for extended periods; and reaching, bending, and moving within Production. Occasional lifting and carrying of materials, tools, or equipment up to 45 pounds may be required.

Work environment

Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing environment and may involve production equipment, hand and power tools, adhesives, electrical equipment, and moderate noise. Required personal protective equipment must be worn as applicable.
