The Village of Lemont is seeking a detail-oriented, customer-focused professional to join our Finance Department as a Utility Billing & Customer Service Specialist. This position plays an important role in providing accurate and responsive utility billing services to our residents while working closely with the Village’s Finance and Public Works teams.

What You’ll Do

The Utility Billing Coordinator oversees the day-to-day administration of the Village’s water and sewer billing operations. Key responsibilities include:

  • Process monthly water and sewer billing and maintain accurate customer accounts.
  • Review meter readings, consumption data, account adjustments, move-ins/move-outs, and exception billing.
  • Monitor delinquent accounts, issue required notices, and assist customers with payment arrangements.
  • Coordinate meter installations, replacements, readings, shut-offs, turn-ons, and related work with Public Works.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of the Village’s part-time Meter Reader.
  • Respond to resident questions and resolve utility billing and account concerns in a professional and helpful manner.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports related to utility accounts and billing activity.
  • Provide support to other Finance Department functions as needed.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is organized, accurate, dependable, and committed to excellent customer service. The successful candidate should be comfortable working independently while also collaborating across departments.Qualifications include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations and detailed data-entry work accurately.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to handle challenging customer situations with professionalism and diplomacy.
  • Experience with utility billing, municipal government, accounting, bookkeeping, or related administrative work is a plus.
  • Experience with Tyler/New World software is strongly preferred.
