On the spot interviews for positions in our Community Habilitation and Respite Programs, no appointment required!

Community Habilitation Salary Range: $18.12- $20.37

Abilities First is waiting for you to join our Community Connections Team! What is Community Connections? Our Specialists provide one on one support to individuals with developmental disabilities, assisting them to live their best life. You will mentor and assist people at home and in the community incorporating a variety of recreational activities in support of personal goals, daily living skills, and increased independence. The ability to document activities will be required.

Respite Self-Directed Pay is through a grant funded program which would be at a rate of $21.00 per hour. This rate is temporary and based on the continuation of the grant. Once the grant has ended the rate of pay will return to $16.00 an hour.

Abilities First has respite opportunities available in Dutchess County. Respite Providers are responsible for providing a variety of in-home activities for our individuals and families as a needed break which eases the stress at home, and which improves family harmony. These activities may include recreational activities, assistance after school/day program, at night or on weekends and/or providing self-care which can include feeding, bathing, dressing, etc. In addition, the Respite Provider will maintain timely and appropriate documentation as required by the oversight agency and/or service program. Candidates must support our goal of person-centered excellence and have a high regard for respect and confidentiality.

Requirements:

• All positions require a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid NYS Driver’s license with driving record deemed acceptable by our insurance carrier and reliable transportation.
• Our Respite program does not require a driver's license.
• Must possess effective coaching and communication skills, respect confidentiality, and be personable.
• Possess verbal and written communication skills in English to ensure adequate regulatory documentation.
• Have the ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
• Have the ability to push and pull individuals in wheelchairs, lift, bend, squat, turn in the knees, pivot, and grasp with both hands (in order to properly and safely perform the techniques taught in CPR/First Aid, behavior intervention techniques, and lifting and carrying techniques), with or without a reasonable accommodation.
• Available to complete all training as required by position.
• Satisfactory results of pre-employment screenings as required by OPWDD.
