Join Aztalan Bio as a Logistics Team Lead and play a key role in leading our logistics team while supporting the safe and efficient operation of our growing facility. This full-time position offers a 12-hour rotating 2-2-3 schedule (4:45 AM – 5:00 PM) and a strong benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 3 weeks of PTO to start, sick time, monthly bonuses, and more.


In this role, you will oversee the receiving and storage of corn and the loading and shipment of corn by-products by truck and rail. You will lead, train, and support Material Handlers, coordinate daily shipping and receiving activities, monitor inventories, and ensure operations run safely, efficiently, and in accordance with quality standards. You will also work closely with department leadership to identify opportunities for improvement and keep our logistics operations running smoothly.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Schedule and supervise the day-to-day activities of the inbound and outbound logistics as they pertain to corn, corn by-products, and rail shipments.
  • Lead, train, and mentor Material Handlers. 
  • Unload corn from trucks to the proper storage location at the facility. 
  • Load corn by-products and other applicable materials into trucks, containers, and railcars. 
  • Coordinate the loading, unloading, movement, and staging of railcars to support plant shipping and receiving needs. 
  • Operate meters and bulk weighers to facilitate product loading and unloading. 
  • Operate loading equipment to receive and deliver products including front-end loaders and lifts.  
  • Compare shipping and delivery documentation to actual delivers and shipments to ensure accuracy.  
  • Consistently check corn stock and co-product levels and reorganize any overstock as needed. 
  • Inspect facilities daily to ensure equipment maintains the proper condition of stored corn and co-products. 
  • Communicate the daily open and closed stock with the material handlers.

  • Identify any problems or improvements and work with the Logistics Training Specialist and Co-product and Elevator Manager to find solutions. 
  • Provide excellent customer service while displaying a positive and professional attitude.  
  • Participate in safety, health, and environmental programs. 
  • Daily reporting of inventories and department status, needs, and happenings. 


Requirements

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required. 
  • 2-3 years’ experience in shipping and receiving that includes prior experience working with machinery in an industrial environment or grain elevator preferred.
  • Experience in the operation of a dry-mill ethanol plant preferred.
  • Experience with the operation of front-end loaders, forklift trucks, man lifts, and related material handling equipment required.
  • Experience leading teams is preferred.
  • Basic math skills are required.
  • Customer service skills working with truck drivers.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable drivers record.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business and technical procedures.
  • Experience with standard computer software programs like Microsoft Office Suite.


Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Noise level in the work environment is moderate. Occasional exposure to high noise levels
  • Subject to extreme outside environmental conditions including extreme temperatures.  
  • Employee may be exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and chemicals used in the process 
  • Personal Protective Equipment such as safety glasses, steel-toed boots, flame-resistant clothing, and hearing protection will regularly be required (or may be required)
  • Regularly required to walk, sit, talk, and hear.  
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and may occasionally be required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
