Payroll & Accounting Assistant
Description

The Payroll and Accounting Assistant is a full-time position responsible for payroll processing and cost entry duties in the New Orleans office of a large law firm. Training will be provided.


Primary Duties:

  • Maintain payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data.
  • Verify new hire information provided by the Human Resources Department.
  • Update payroll records to reflect changes in tax exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, job titles, and department or division transfers.
  • Maintain payroll operations by following established policies and procedures and reporting needed changes.
  • Collect, edit, and adjust time clock punches.
  • Process semi-monthly payroll.
  • Submit FSA information to healthcare providers.
  • Maintain vacation and sick leave accruals.
  • Balance and import the semi-monthly payroll journal entry.
  • Respond to payroll-related inquiries.
  • Compile and distribute internal management reports from the payroll system.
  • Maintain accounting-related spreadsheets.
  • Import or enter costs into the firm’s accounting system for billing to firm clients.
  • Perform other tasks and projects as assigned by the Payroll Manager or other Accounting Managers 
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree or prior payroll experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong data entry skills. 
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of employee compensation and personal information.
  • Detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong numerical aptitude and ability to learn new processes quickly.
