Distribution Designer – Electric Utilities
Chesterbrook, PA| Hybrid | Full-time
KDM Engineering is seeking an experienced Distribution Designer to join our growing team in Pennsylvania. In this role, you’ll take the lead in projects, provide technical guidance across project teams, and help deliver safe, reliable, and constructible engineering solutions for our utility clients.
This is an opportunity for an experienced Distribution Designer professional who enjoys both hands-on technical leadership. You’ll work on challenging projects, collaborate directly with clients, mentor developing engineers, and play an important role in strengthening KDM’s growing transmission capabilities.
What You’ll Do
- Independently design overhead and underground utility distribution systems, following client and industry standards
- Prepare construction drawings, cost estimates, material lists (BOMs), and specifications
- Conduct field visits to gather data, verify site conditions, and obtain landowner permissions as needed
- Coordinate with clients, project engineers, and permitting authorities
- Apply utility standards (e.g., NESC) to ensure code compliance
- Track project progress using client and internal systems
- Prepare required reports and maintain accurate project documentation
- Proficiency in design software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, and GIS systems
- Knowledge of pole loading and sag analysis tools (e.g., PoleForeman, O-Calc, SpidaCalc)
What We’re Looking For
- BS Electrical Engineering degree.
- 4+ years of prior industry experience.
- Proficient in the use of all software needed to produce quality electrical design drawings such as AutoCAD, TED, Microsoft Office programs.
- Knowledge of PPL Electric Utilities standards and distribution design practices is preferred.
- Ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
