VP/Director, Guild Retention & Engagement
Job Type
Full-time
Description

Angel (NYSE: ANGX) is building an audience-driven studio and streaming platform. The Angel Guild has surpassed 3 million paying members who watch, screen, and vote on the stories we bring to theaters and the Angel app. Membership growth has been strong — retention and lifetime value are now core to how we scale profitably. Own Guild member retention and churn end to end. You’ll set the strategy and lead the work across product, lifecycle marketing, data/ML, and CX so members stay longer, watch more, and keep voting with us. This is a senior operator seat with clear ownership of retention KPIs for a multi-million-member subscription business.

Requirements

Expectations of Leaders at Angel Studios:

  • Amplify light in every action.
  • As the owner of your outcomes, you are empowered to break down silos and coordinate with any and all people you need in order to reach your goals.
  • You are ultimately responsible for achieving the outcomes while also using resources wisely - whether that be money, people, or time.
  • Know your customer - it might be our viewers, investors, creators, or internal Angel Teams. Ensure you understand your customer and are providing what THEY need and not just what you want to build.
  • You OWN the success of your team members, including hiring, onboarding, goals, performance management, raises, terminations, etc.
  • Hold team members accountable to their goals - help them grow and make the most of the resources they bring. Document their performance for reviews.
  • Create opportunities for team members to take initiative and ownership.
  • Give consistent and timely candid feedback with compassion - your team members need to know where they stand at all times. If you find yourself doubting a team member, address it swiftly with actionable feedback.

Essential functions

  • Own voluntary and involuntary churn, net retention, and related LTV metrics for the Angel Guild
  • Build and lead retention strategy across the full member journey: onboarding, engagement, save/cancel deflection, payment recovery, win-back, and reactivation
  • Partner with Product and Data Science on predictive churn models, personalization, save offers, and in-product retention experiences
  • Lead lifecycle programs across email, push, in-app, and other owned channels — and connect them to what members actually watch and vote on
  • Work with Growth, Content, and Finance on pricing, packaging, bundling, and forecast inputs tied to retention
  • Build and coach a high-performing retention / lifecycle team; raise the bar on experimentation and measurement
  • Bring proven playbooks from large subscription streamers (and adapt them to Angel’s Guild model)

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.

Competencies

  • 10+ years in subscription or DTC businesses, with significant time in streaming / SVOD / paid membership platforms
  • Proven ownership of retention and churn at Director or VP level (or equivalent scope) — not just campaign execution
  • Deep experience with lifecycle CRM, predictive churn, payment recovery / involuntary churn, and cancel-save flows
  • Comfort operating cross-functionally with Product, Data Science, Growth, Content, and Finance
  • Strong analytical chops; fluent in cohort analysis, experimentation, and tying retention work to revenue
  • Preference for leaders who’ve scaled retention orgs at companies like Netflix, Disney/Hulu, Max, Peacock, Paramount+, Spotify, or similar subscription platforms
  • Mission fit: excitement for values-driven storytelling and Angel’s audience-powered model

Work environment - When in the main office, expect a comfortable, air-conditioned work environment. Team members are issued their own desks, but the office is an open, shared space and can be fast-paced and occasionally noisy.

Physical demands - Will need to be able to sit or stand at a desk for extended periods of time.

Position type and expected hours of work - Regular full-time, 40 hours per week.

Travel required -  Will need to be able to travel when necessary

Preferred education and experience

  • Background spanning both marketing-led lifecycle and product-led retention
  • Familiarity with Angel, the Angel Guild, and our body of work (films, series, and other projects).

Work authorization - Must be authorized to work in the United States.
