Description

Position Summary: The Sow Farm Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, production performance, financial results, animal welfare, biosecurity integrity, safety compliance, and employee development of an assigned sow production unit. This role ensures maximized productivity and profitability through effective management of animals, facilities, vendors, and team members while maintaining strict adherence to company protocols, regulatory standards, and audit requirements.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages all daily sow production activities including breeding, gestation, farrowing, and iso-wean processes.
  • Ensure adherence to herd health protocols including vaccinations, treatments, blood testing, and culling procedures.
  • Monitors and maintains proper ventilation, feeding systems, watering systems, generator, alarm systems, and environmental controls.
  • Ensures accurate and timely production data entry and recordkeeping on PorkView(weekly entries, error corrections, gilt entries, cull and mortality removals, etc.).
  • Ensures accurate pigflow, cull load, and gilt load entry utilizing Smartsheet 
  • Accurately places feed orders to avoid running short or spoiled feed. 
  • Oversee mortality management and waste handling in accordance with environmental standards.
  • Manages and control site financial performance including cost containment, supply ordering, and budget adherence.
  • Monitors and maintains maintenance of facilities and equipment utilizing Barn Vista
  • Coordinates and supervises on-site vendors (manure removal, repairs, mowing, service providers).
  • Recruits, trains, coaches, and develops farm staff in partnership with HR and leadership.
  • Manages schedules, attendance, performance reviews, corrective action, and documentation.
  • Leads team meetings and provide clear daily and weekly work direction.
  • Maintains a culture of dignity, respect, accountability, and professional communication.
  • Ensures a safe working environment including proper PPE usage, safety training, hazard communication, and compliance with company policies.
  • Maintains audit readiness for biosecurity, safety, and animal welfare standards.
  • Communicates regularly and proactively with the Production Supervisor regarding performance, risks, and operational needs.
  • Maintains PQA+ certification.
  • Completes safety training timely.
  • Follows all Animal Welfare policies and practices and informs management of any violations by staff.
  • Follows bio-security measures according to Bio-Security Policy, including movement of animals, visitor access, sanitation, and disease prevention measures.
  • Follows all safety rules and practices and ensures others do the same.
  • Supports, promotes, and adheres to policies, procedures, and values of Passel Farms and industry standards.
  • Regular, punctual and consistent attendance is essential for this position.
  • Other duties as may be assigned to fulfill responsibilities of this position and support team goals.
Requirements

Qualification: An advance degree in a related field of study is preferred and or 5+ years of livestock production experience. Prior supervisory or management experience is preferred. Bilingual proficiency preferred. A personal cell phone is required with a monthly reimbursement stipend set by the company. Must be able to work with a variety of personalities to make a successful team.

Must be able to move and work with live animals of various sizes.


Working Environment: The work is performed almost exclusively in hog facilities that require strict compliance with all company biosecurity protocols, including shower-in/shower-out procedures, the use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), and direct interaction with live animals and production personnel. Regular presence in barn is required. Work schedules are generally during regular business hours but may include later evenings, weekends, or holidays based on production schedules and operational needs. There will be some variation in work hours due to animal care and health, weather, employee schedules, special projects, and other concerns.
