REPORTS TO: Co-Chief Executive Officer

SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday (9:00am-5:30pm) [Some nights and weekends required]

LOCATION: Venice, CA, Access Center, Hybrid

STATUS:  Full-Time, 40 hrs/wk, Exempt

SALARY RANGE: $160,000 Annually

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Chief Program Officer position provides the leadership, vision, and strategy necessary to develop, implement, and oversee the organization’s programming.  In collaboration and consultation with the Co-Chief Executive Officers and Executive Team, the CPO will serve as a steward for the organization with primary responsibility to ensure that SPY is meeting its strategic planning and funder objectives in programs, and providing high quality care to youth. 


WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • In coordination with the Co-Chief Executive Officer and executive team, will provide high level strategy and oversight to the delivery of services and organizational programming
  • Guide and ensure that the program and service delivery culture is in line with SPY’s  mission
  • Ensure timely hiring, onboarding and regular training of program staff, and motivate and support team members
  • Oversee the coordination, integration, and delivery of all programs, contracts and related services; promoting collaborative relationships between program areas and ensuring that the expectations of funders, partners, constituents, clients, and other stakeholders are consistently met
  • Participate in the strategic growth of the organization, identifying mission aligned opportunities to increase Safe Place for Youth’s impact
  • Engage with Safe Place for Youth’s Board of Directors, facilitating committees, participating in meetings, producing reports and conducting presentations 
  • Participate in fund development activities and donor engagement 
  • Participate in the budget development process and maintain a high level of fiscal responsibility by working closely with the finance department to budget and monitor programmatic operations to ensure sound fiscal and system management and funding maximization
  • Partner with the grants and contracts team to submit applications and reports, and to ensure that staff are appropriately allocated and grants are maximized
  • Ensure all programs are in compliance with all performance outcomes and contractual requirements, and meeting their KPIs
  • Participate as part of the Performance and Quality Improvement team and ensure continuous quality improvement of programs
  • Be impact driven; use data and continued research and analysis to inform program design and ensure relevancy and effective service delivery
  • Provide effective leadership and guidance to staff that embodies a collaborative and innovative culture, and professionally develop supervisees
  • Ensure safety measures are embedded in all programs, and that potential risks are managed
  • Ensure staff are effectively providing crisis intervention, de-escalation, completion of required mandated reporting, and provide additional support as needed
  • Participate in speaking engagements, the dissemination of Safe Place for Youth’s work and provide staff development trainings
  • Develop annual short and long term departmental and programmatic goals that are in line with the strategic plan, performance and quality improvement process, and vision
  • Serve as an ambassador for the organization with external community partners and funders.  
  • Establish and cultivate collaborative relationships with leaders in the community, area institutions, elected officials, businesses and other organizations, to advance programmatic goals.
  • Promote regular and ongoing opportunities for staff, clients, and partners to give feedback on program operations.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the mission of the program and organization.
Requirements

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Bachelor’s degree is Social Work, Psychology, or any related field is required. 
  • Master’s degree in social work or marriage and family therapy is required.
  • Clinical licensure, active license and in good standing with the Board of Behavioral Sciences is required. 
  • Two years post licensure, with the ability to supervise licensure hours is required. 
  • 3-4 years of experience in a supervisory role is required.
  • 2-3 years of experience in the non-profit sector working with diverse groups is required.
  • Strong program and operational experience, experience overseeing residential services and programing at multiple locations is preferred. 
  • Experience with public speaking and providing training
  • Experience with and knowledge of homeless services and youth services 
  • Understanding of homeless services and housing programs at a senior management level
  • Experience managing multi-million-dollar budgets and complex funding sources
  • Experience in designing and delivering program services
  • Understanding of various non-profit funding sources
  • Experience supervising and managing large teams, strong leadership skills, and the ability to cultivate staff
  • Skilled in organizational development, personnel management, budget and resource development, and strategic planning
  • Excellent people skills, with an ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team
  • Strategic and innovative thinking; an entrepreneurial leader oriented toward impact and sustainability
  • Possess personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to agency mission
  • Strong community awareness with demonstrated commitment to the values of diversity, racial equity, inclusiveness, and empowerment
  • Exceptional organization skills,  attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Flexible and able to multitask; can work with an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems
  • Valid CA drivers license, personal vehicle and adequate insurance

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Changes in the environment, such as the office or outdoors.
  • Physical effort/lifting, such as sedentary- up to 15-20 pounds at times.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

Mandated Reporting Requirements: All SPY employees are ‘mandated reporters’ and are legally required to report any reasonable suspicion of child, elder, or dependent adult abuse or neglect.

Driver Positions:

Applicants are required to provide a copy of their driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles, along with a copy of their valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. Job offers are contingent upon a satisfactory driving record.
