JOB SUMMARY: Works under the direction of Clinical Services & Clinical Management. Answers and responds to calls regarding new patient referrals. The Central Scheduler does not diagnose, but makes new patient appointments with appropriate provider using the triage algorithm in a timely manner.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Answers incoming referral phone calls for the assigned department.
- Schedules appointments with appropriate provider per algorithm and protocols.
- Confers with providers when unsure.
- Documents in EMR all calls including callers’ name/office.
- Maintains confidentiality of all information regarding the patients.
- Demonstrates excellent customer service skills.
- Maintains good public relations with other departments, physicians, patients and families.
- May be exposed to hazardous drugs.
- Attends OSHA training upon initial employee orientation and annually completes an OSHA competency.
RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS: Direct relationship with providers and staff. Indirect relationship with referring providers and patients.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE: Graduated from High School or completed GED requirements and preferably 1 year experience in health care.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Classification of work level: Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching. May require proper body mechanics. Require manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment such as computer, fax and telephone. Require hearing and vision that is adequate to perform job duties.
