BHMG SUBSTATION DESIGN

As power demands continue to increase, the current aging infrastructure will require substantial support to meet the requirements and ensure reliability. Substations are crucial for delivering reliable and safe power to our communities. At BHMG, we take care of everything from the ground up and ensure coordination from initial scoping all the way through construction and in-service. Our focus areas include:

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Associate Engineer - Substation supports the development of substation drawing sets by learning design tools, standards, and workflows while contributing to project deliverables under close supervision. This position builds foundational technical skills and supports the design team in preparing accurate and compliant design packages. This position is ideal for a new grad or early career individual.

Key Responsibilities:

• Electrical (P&C) Design: Assist in developing and drafting panel layouts, one lines, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and cable schedules; perform basic design calculations and

prepare supporting documentation; review vendor approval drawings for alignment with P&C design packages.

• Physical Substation Design: assist in developing and drafting physical plans, equipment arrangements, grounding layouts, conduit/trench plans, and foundation location plans; assist in

developing sections, elevations, and detail views based on general arrangements, standards, and engineering inputs; perform basic design calculations and prepare supporting

documentation.

• Assist in developing and drafting submittal packages (IFR, IFB, IFF, IFC, PCR) and design checklists.

• Maintain organized project files, drawing lists, and documentation across multiple projects.

• Develop bills of materials and preliminary material specifications.

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related ABET accredited engineering discipline is required.

• Typically, 0–2 years of relevant experience.

• FE/EIT preferred or in progress.

Skills:

• Basic knowledge of engineering design principles and industry standards (NESC).

• Familiarity with MS Office, exposure to AutoCAD, Bluebeam and analytical tools a plus.

• Ability to follow engineering processes, apply guidance from senior staff, and translate direction into accurate design outputs.

• Strong organization, attention to detail, and time-management skills.

• Effective communication skills and a willingness to learn in a collaborative team environment.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks and incorporate feedback constructively.

At BHMG, our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the base salary offered. Roles are eligible for additional rewards including annual incentive payments based on individual and company performance. The compensation range for this position is $76,000.00 - $95,000.00. It is not typical for someone to be placed at the high end of the range. This is an entry-level/associate role.
