Job Summary
The HVAC Mechanical Designer creates and maintains detailed drawings and 3D models for custom HVAC roof curbs, curb adapters, and equipment mounting systems, translating customer specifications and mechanical equipment cutsheets into accurate, shop-ready designs. This role works closely with sales, engineering, and the production floor to keep quotes and orders moving from request to fabrication. Reports to the Engineering/Drafting Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Interpret architectural, mechanical, and structural drawings to develop accurate curb and adapter designs
Draft and revise technical drawings in CAD software following company engineering standards and templates
Prepare fabrication drawings for production
Respond to requests for quotes with accurate technical drawings within customer deadlines
Collaborate with sales, engineering, and production to resolve design questions and confirm manufacturability
Check dimensional accuracy and verify designs meet applicable codes and standards
Maintain organized drawing files, revision history, and part/model libraries
Support ongoing improvement of drafting standards, templates, and CAD workflows
Required Qualifications & Skills
Associate degree or technical certificate in drafting, CAD design, mechanical design, or equivalent combination of education and experience
2-5 years of CAD drafting experience, ideally in HVAC, sheet metal, or metal fabrication/manufacturing
Proficiency with SolidWorks required; experience with other digital design for manufacturing software is a plus
Ability to read and interpret mechanical equipment submittals, architectural drawings, and engineering specifications
Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication processes and basic GD&T principles is a plus
Strong attention to detail and accuracy while working against deadlines
Comfortable with Google and Microsoft environments.
Compensation, Schedule & Work Environment
Pay: $30-$35 per hour, based on experience
Full-time, on-site position
Standard business hours, Monday-Friday with occasional additional hours to address business needs.
Primarily an office/drafting environment, with periodic time on the shop floor to check designs against fabricated parts
