THE OPPORTUNITY

The Associate Engineer - Line design supports the development of construction drawing sets by learning design tools, standards, and workflows while contributing to project deliverables under close supervision. This position builds foundational technical skills and supports the design team in preparing accurate and compliant design packages. This position is ideal for a new grad or early career individual.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with distribution line design using GIS design tools, engineering software, and utility standards. 

• Support pole loading analysis, clearance checks, and basic strength and conductor sizing calculations. 

• Prepare construction drawings, bills of material, staking sheets, and project documentation. 

• Coordinate with drafters to provide markups and updates to design packages. 

• Participate in field visits for site assessment, measurements, and construction support. 

• Use survey data, utility records, and real estate information to determine accurate pole placement and route alignment. 

• Help identify required permits and new easement boundaries, assist with preparing permit applications, exhibits, and supporting documentation. 

• Perform basic design analysis and calculations in accordance with NESC, RUS, and client-specific standards. 

• Learn underbuild, joint-use, and make-ready requirements and assist with coordination between utilities and third parties. 

• Support team members in meeting project objectives, schedules, and quality requirements.

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related ABET-accredited engineering discipline required.

• Typically, 0–2 years of relevant experience.

• FE/EIT preferred or in progress.

Skills:

• Basic knowledge of engineering design principles and industry standards (NESC).

• Familiarity with MS Office; exposure to AutoCAD, GIS tools, Bluebeam, and analytical software is a plus.

• Strong attention to detail, organization, and time-management skills.

• Ability to follow established engineering processes and apply guidance from senior engineers.

• Effective communication and willingness to learn in a collaborative team environment.

At BHMG, our pay ranges are broad to allow for movement within our organization and to accommodate different skill sets and levels of expertise. We take into consideration a variety of factors including, but not limited to, skills, abilities, experience, education, credentials, and internal equity when determining the base salary offered. Roles are eligible for additional rewards including annual incentive payments based on individual and company performance. The compensation range for this position is $76,000.00 - $95,000.00. It is not typical for someone to be placed at the high end of the range. This is an entry-level/associate role.
