BBB is hiring a Senior Project Manager to join its Cultural, Institutional, and Higher Education studio in our New York City office. This role offers the opportunity to lead major projects for cultural and higher education clients, working with a diverse team of professionals across our New York, Boston, and Washington, DC offices. I. Role
The Senior Project Manager leads multiple projects or a single large-scale, highly complex project involving historic and existing buildings for major cultural, institutional, and higher education clients in the NYC area and New England.
Our ideal candidate combines strong design judgment and technical knowledge with the ability to guide institutional clients through complex decision-making. This individual communicates clearly, develops collaborative teams, and anticipates the staffing, financial, and technical needs of projects from planning through completion.
As the primary client liaison, the Senior Project Manager oversees administrative and technical project efforts, aligning scope, schedule, budget, and resources to deliver work that meets BBB’s standards and client expectations.
II. Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary client liaison across multiple projects or a single large-scale, highly complex project, managing client relationships and guiding key decisions.
- Oversee project schedules, budgets, contracts, and invoicing; monitor progress and financial performance, anticipate risks, and resolve issues affecting delivery.
- Estimate fees, define scopes of services, and prepare proposals and contracts appropriate to project scale and complexity.
- Prepare and lead presentations to clients, commissions, boards, and other stakeholder groups, communicating design concepts, technical considerations, and project priorities.
- Collaborate with project architects and designers to establish milestones and timelines for design decisions, coordinating client approvals with project requirements.
- Plan and manage staffing across projects and phases, ensuring teams have adequate resources and balancing assignments according to workload, experience, and individual strengths.
- Coordinate internal teams and consultants to resolve complex issues and maintain continuity across project phases.
- Provide direction and mentorship to project teams, supporting collaboration, accountability, and professional development.
III. Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
- 15+ years of relevant experience, including substantial experience managing projects involving historic and existing buildings for cultural, institutional, and higher education clients.
- Demonstrated success managing multiple projects concurrently or leading a single large-scale, highly complex institutional project.
- Strong client relationships and communication skills, including experience guiding complex decision-making and presenting to stakeholder groups.
- Demonstrated experience managing project scope, fees, budgets, schedules, contracts, and staffing.
- Strong design judgment and technical knowledge, with the ability to anticipate workflow, coordination needs, and resource requirements across project phases.
- Proven ability to lead collaborative teams, delegate effectively, and support staff development.
- Proficiency in software used for presentations, contract documentation, project management, and communication.
- Working proficiency in Revit.
This is a full-time position with excellent benefits and growth potential. We currently offer remote work on Fridays and twenty-four additional work-from-home days a year. The salary is commensurate with experience and ability, ranging between $140,000 and $160,000 per annum, excluding bonuses and other benefits.
