OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:

Provides nursing assistance and patient care to provide for the comfort, safety and personal needs of patients. Assists physicians/physician assistants/nurse practitioners in medical office setting. Handles call outs for satellite locations. Performs a variety of patient care duties within the construct of a multidisciplinary patient care team as delegated by physician. Specific duties and responsibilities assigned to the individual will be determined by the supervising physician(s), clinical staff and Practice Coordinator after competency is established.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Interviews patient and records patient medical history and specific information related reason for visit. Prepares patient for examination by performing and recording preliminary vitals such as blood pressure, temperature, weight.
  2. Reports abnormal symptoms, unusual conditions or adverse reactions to physician. Measures and records accurate vital signs.
  3. Prepare exam and treatment rooms. Prepare and maintain supplies and equipment treatments, sterilizing instruments as needed.
  4. Assists physicians and nurses with physical examination and treatments, and performs surgical preps and simple dressing changes.
  5. Provides procedures and treatments as delegated by physician.
  6. Maintains patient medical records; obtains information necessary to initiate routine admission procedures as required.
  7. Enters physician orders for tests, procedures, etc. into computer system. Schedule tests and treatments, as ordered by the physician.
  8. Transcribes medical orders, prints lab reports.
  9. Prepare and administer over-the-counter medications as ordered by the physician.
  10. Maintains a clean, neat and safe environment. Activities may include but are not limited to tidying room, cleaning equipment, changing bed linens, restocking work areas, keeping rooms and hallways clear of debris, emptying trash, logs for refrigeration, eyewash, defrosting refrigerators, cleaning cabinet surfaces, and completing discharge room cleans. Maintains AED's-all locations. Ensures cleanliness of autoclave, completeness of needle stick packets and ensure propoer disposal of Biohazard waste.
  11. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injuries to Manager.
  12. Provide supervision to back office staff
  13. Educate back office staff on testing procedures
  14. Train staff using equipment (bone density, EKG,-ABI,-Automatic Blood Pressure, and Calibration)
  15. Order back office medical supplies
  16. Check samples and order medications
  17. Perform quality controls and train staff to maintain them.
  18. Compose letters and forms for use in the office

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. May schedule surgeries / diagnostic procedures and perform the duties of a scheduler as required.

a. Schedules surgical and other procedures for in office and off-site surgical facilities. Obtains patient information necessary for proper scheduling of examination if necessary

b. Determines staff availability and schedules surgical and pre assessment appointmentsc. Telephones patients to schedule or confirm pre assessment appointment. Provides patient with information and instructions as appropriate to procedure or appointment. Supplies patients with correct instructions and reviews instructions with patients. Is able to answer routine questions concerning nature or length of procedure. Discerns when questions require referral to technical/medical staffd. Receives and reviews schedules to identify accounts/cases requiring precertification.e. Communicates and follows-up with physician offices, hospital departments and insurance companies to determine whether precertification has been initiated. Works with appropriate office staff as required to obtain precertification.
