Essential Functions:
- Design and curate developmentally appropriate curriculum, lesson plans, activity guides, project-based experiences, enrichment units, and implementation resources for elementary, middle school, high school, and Teen Clubhouse populations.
- Translate the BGCSL Program Design Model into practical tools, templates, planning guides, pacing resources, and site-level practices that support consistency while allowing age-, interest-, school-, and community-responsive customization.
- Develop and maintain an annual Curriculum and Program Content Calendar aligned with fall, spring, summer, and intersession programming, including BGCSL Must Do's, targeted programs, enrichment activities, and organization-wide initiatives.
- Maintain an organized, accessible, centralized curriculum library; review resources regularly to determine what should be maintained, revised, replaced, or retired; and evaluate external curricula and promising youth-development practices.
- Conduct site visits, gather feedback from staff and youth, provide technical assistance and modeling, identify implementation barriers, and develop practical adaptations that strengthen curriculum implementation and youth engagement.
- Partner with Learning & Development to create and facilitate training on curriculum implementation, project-based learning, youth engagement, and effective activity facilitation, and support pilots before broader implementation.
- Embed youth voice, choice, cultural responsiveness, inclusion, differentiated participation, and meaningful opportunities for creativity, exploration, leadership, and demonstrations of learning throughout program content.
- Use observations, participation data, youth and staff feedback, NYOI results, and other available information to evaluate effectiveness, recommend improvements, and contribute to BGCSL's Continuous Quality Improvement process and Program Design Model evaluation.
- The Coordinator maintains a strong working partnership with the Director of Program Design & Youth Impact and collaborates with the Managing Director of Programs, Area Directors, Program Managers, Learning & Development, Compliance and Partnerships, school and district partners when appropriate, and the MTSS Youth Support Specialist. The role provides functional expertise, curriculum support, and technical assistance but does not supervise Area Directors, Program Managers, Youth Development Professionals, or other site-based staff. Staff performance, site operations, and management concerns are communicated to the Director of Program Design & Youth Impact for appropriate follow-up.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and/or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Education or a related field.
- Minimum five years of experience in youth development, education, expanded learning, or a related field.
- Minimum three years of demonstrated experience designing curriculum for elementary and/or high school-age students at an organizational level.
- Demonstrated experience developing lesson plans, curriculum units, activity guides, and educational content at an organizational level.
- Strong knowledge of child and adolescent development and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Organization-wide experience facilitating training, professional development, coaching, or technical assistance for adults.
- Strong writing, project management, organization, and communication skills, including the ability to manage multiple curriculum-development projects and deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across roles and organizational levels.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in education, Curriculum and Instruction, Teaching and Learning, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
- Experience designing curriculum across elementary, middle, and high school grade bands and for implementation across multiple sites.
- Experience in expanded learning, after-school, Boys & Girls Clubs, or community-based youth development.
- Experience with project-based learning, experiential education, SEL, STEM, literacy, youth leadership, or college and career readiness.
- Knowledge of culturally responsive practices, positive youth development, MTSS, restorative practices, and trauma-informed approaches.
Work Environment:
The Program Design Curriculum & Content Coordinator will work primarily in an administrative office environment at Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro and will routinely visit school-based sites and the Teen Clubhouse to observe implementation, provide support, and gather feedback. The role requires flexibility as needed to accommodate organizational events, program schedules, training, pilots, and deadlines.

- The employee must occasionally lift and /or move more than 20 pounds.
