Position Summary
The Clinical Educator is responsible for supporting clinical practice by training, mentoring, and evaluating clinical staff across daily operations. This role provides hands-on education during patient care, supports onboarding and competency development for new and existing staff, reinforces documentation and patient safety standards, and helps identify skill or workflow gaps. The Clinical Educator also develops training plans, maintains competency records, creates education materials, supports continuing education opportunities, and collaborates with clinic leadership to improve patient flow, staff confidence, and overall care quality.
Responsibilities
Clinical teaching and supervision
- Round and supervise staff during patient visits
- Model proper patient interview, examination, and communication techniques
- Teach point-of-care procedures (e.g., injections, phlebotomy, EKGs, in-office testing)
- Perform room time audits and keep a log of audits to ensure staff are meeting appropriate rooming timelines
Onboarding and Staff Training
- Develop 10-day training plans for new hires
- Train new clinical staff (MAs, LPNs, RNs) on office protocols, EHR systems, and workflows
- Provide competency training and training on equipment (vitals monitors, in-office labs, POC testing devices)
- Orient new staff on documentation standards and ensure existing staff continues to uphold these standards
- Keep training records and competency checklists up to date
- Develop and implement annual competency check offs and level employees into tiers
Patient care quality
- Reinforce patient safety protocols and standardized care guidelines
- Monitor and provide feedback on patient communication and bedside manner
- Ensure consistency in clinical practice with staff
- Address knowledge or skill gaps identified during patient encounters
- Communicate frequently with HCAs to address clinical education concerns and to ensure continuation of educated topics
Feedback and evaluation
- Give real-time, constructive feedback during or after patient encounters
- Conduct periodic competency assessments or skills checkoffs for staff
- Identify additional training needs based on observed performance
Workflow development
- Develop or update workflows for clinical tasks
- Provide education on new or updated workflows
- Create quick-reference guides or training materials for common procedures
- Help streamline patient flow and clinical workflows for efficiency
Mentorship
- Support staff in building confidence and clinical judgment
- Serve as a go-to resource for clinical education questions during the day
- Foster a culture of continuous learning within the clinics
Continuing Education
- Organize or lead in-office trainings, lunch-and-learns, or skill refreshers
- Manage and follow the progress of staff enrolled in the CMA program

- Active, unrestricted license/certification as an RN, LPN, or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) in the state of practice; RN preferred given the scope of clinical oversight and training responsibilities.
- 1+ years of clinical experience in an outpatient, primary care, or similar ambulatory setting.
- Prior experience training, mentoring, or precepting clinical staff (MAs, LPNs, RNs) preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of point-of-care procedures, including injections, phlebotomy, EKGs, and in-office testing.
- Experience with EHR systems and clinical documentation standards; ability to train others on EHR workflows.
- Familiarity with competency-based training models, skills checklists, and tiered staff development programs.
- Knowledge of patient safety protocols, standardized care guidelines, and quality improvement practices.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to provide real-time, constructive feedback to staff of varying experience levels.
- Comfortable auditing workflows (e.g., room time audits) and identifying/addressing performance or process gaps.
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple training plans, records, and competency documentation simultaneously.
- Experience with or willingness to support CMA apprenticeship/certification programs (e.g., TACHC Apprenticeship Program) is a plus
