Position Summary

The Lead Housekeeper is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Housekeeping Department and helping maintain a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for clients, visitors, and employees.

The Lead Housekeeper serves as a working leader and provides day-to-day guidance and support to housekeeping staff. This position assists management with coordinating assignments, maintaining housekeeping standards, monitoring supplies and equipment, training new employees, and identifying environmental concerns.

The Lead Housekeeper is expected to lead by example, demonstrate professionalism and accountability, and support a positive and respectful department culture while continuing to perform regular housekeeping duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Housekeeping Operations

  • Perform routine housekeeping duties, including cleaning and sanitizing patient rooms, common areas, offices, bathrooms, hallways, and other assigned areas.
  • Ensure assigned areas are maintained according to Apex Recovery cleanliness and sanitation standards.
  • Assist with daily assignment planning and help ensure housekeeping tasks are completed timely and thoroughly.
  • Monitor completed work and identify areas requiring additional attention.
  • Assist with maintaining consistent housekeeping standards across the facility.
  • Respond to special cleaning needs, spills, urgent environmental concerns, and other requests as needed.

Lead Responsibilities

  • Serve as a point of contact for housekeeping staff during daily operations.
  • Assist management with assigning daily housekeeping duties and responsibilities.
  • Help communicate department expectations, schedule changes, and operational needs to housekeeping staff.
  • Provide guidance and support to team members when questions or concerns arise.
  • Lead by example through reliability, professionalism, teamwork, and attention to detail.
  • Help promote accountability and consistent performance within the department.
  • Must complete daily walkthroughs of the building
  • Communicate employee performance concerns, attendance concerns, safety issues, or other significant matters to management.
  • Assist management with maintaining appropriate staffing coverage and identifying operational needs.

Training and Onboarding

  • Assist with orientation and training of new housekeeping employees.
  • Demonstrate proper cleaning procedures, infection prevention practices, chemical handling, and safety expectations.
  • Help ensure new employees understand housekeeping checklists, department procedures, and facility expectations.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and support to housekeeping team members as appropriate.
  • Communicate training or performance concerns to management.

Supplies, Equipment, and Inventory

  • Monitor housekeeping supplies, equipment, carts, closets, and storage areas.
  • Assist with maintaining appropriate inventory levels and communicating supply needs to management.
  • Help ensure housekeeping equipment is properly maintained and stored.
  • Report damaged, missing, or malfunctioning equipment.
  • Maintain organized housekeeping closets and supply areas.
  • Help ensure chemicals and cleaning products are properly stored and handled.

Safety, Sanitation, and Compliance

  • Follow all applicable infection prevention, sanitation, safety, and environmental procedures.
  • Ensure cleaning chemicals are properly labeled, stored, and used according to manufacturer instructions.
  • Maintain awareness of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and proper chemical handling procedures.
  • Follow appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Report environmental hazards, maintenance concerns, spills, injuries, or other safety concerns promptly.
  • Assist management in maintaining housekeeping practices that support regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect patient privacy while performing housekeeping duties.

Documentation and Department Organization

  • Assist with maintaining housekeeping checklists, cleaning schedules, inventory records, and other departmental documentation.
  • Help ensure required cleaning tasks and inspections are documented accurately.
  • Communicate incomplete tasks, environmental concerns, and departmental needs to management.
  • Assist with preparing the department for inspections, audits, and accreditation visits.

The Lead Housekeeper does not have independent authority to hire, terminate, issue formal disciplinary action, change employee compensation, or make policy decisions. Significant employee relations, performance, safety, or operational concerns should be communicated to management.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Previous housekeeping or environmental services experience preferred.
  • Ability to perform physical housekeeping duties for the duration of a shift.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning products and equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse team.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Preferred:

  • Previous lead, supervisory, or training experience.
  • Experience in a healthcare, behavioral health, hospitality, or other regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and environmental cleaning practices.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and squat.
  • Lift and carry housekeeping supplies and equipment.
  • Push and pull cleaning carts and equipment.
  • Perform repetitive cleaning motions.
  • Safely navigate patient and staff areas.
  • Perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Working Conditions

The Lead Housekeeper may work throughout the facility, including patient areas, offices, bathrooms, common areas, and other operational spaces. The position may involve exposure to cleaning chemicals, bodily fluids, odors, dust, and other environmental conditions commonly associated with healthcare housekeeping.

All employees are expected to follow Apex Recovery's safety, infection prevention, confidentiality, and workplace policies.
