Description

Job Summary

Responsible for picking up donations from local donors and distribution of products to recipient agencies. May include overnight trips over long distances and driving a Tractor and Trailer for those with class “A” driver license. Check or assist in loading & unloading and confirm quantities. Warehouse work as necessary.

Second Harvest Food Bank secures and distributes food and grocery products to more than 800 feeding partners throughout Central Florida.  Department Overview 

The Operation Department plays a key role in Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida's day to day functions. The department manages a fleet of 15 vehicles currently, but this could grow in the future, and a team of 14 drivers are responsible for moving food across a seven-county distribution network. Core functions include retail food rescue through the Grocery Alliance program, deliveries to schools through the School Partnership Program, and deliveries to partner agencies throughout the service area. The department is also a key component of the food bank's disaster response operations. All transportation activities are conducted in compliance with Feeding America and AIB food safety standards, DOT regulations, and organizational safety policies governing a safety-sensitive workforce.


Travel Requirements

Travel is primarily local within Second Harvest's seven-county service area of Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Volusia and Marion counties. 


Work Hours

Monday through Friday. Early morning start times are required to support route dispatch and driver check-in


Job Responsibilities

  • Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles to pick up food and other products from designated donors and locations
  • Inspect and verify donated products for safe handling, transportation, and acceptance in accordance with established food safety procedures.
  • Transport and deliver products to partner agencies, including TEFAP distributions, accurately and on schedule
  • Complete required documentation for donor pickups, deliveries, and product donations accurately and timely
  • Maintain required driver logs, transportation records, and other applicable documentation
  • Communicate donor, partner agency, delivery, and route-related updates or concerns to Transportation/Operations leadership
  • Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintain the general cleanliness and condition of assigned trucks; promptly report maintenance or safety concerns
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels of food containers and related transportation supplies within the warehouse
  • Assist with warehouse operations, including loading, unloading, staging, and other duties, as needed
  • Immediately report vehicle accidents, injuries, product safety concerns, or other incidents to Management in accordance with organizational procedures
  • Follow all applicable safety, food handling, transportation, and organizational policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management in support of transportation and warehouse operations
  • Other duties as assigned    
Requirements

  Minimum Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Class A CDL  
  • Minimum of three years of directly related experience 
  • Must pass pre-employment drug test
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed 
  • Ability to resolve disputes and foster collaboration.
  • Must have good communication and customer skills
  • Must comply with regulations for inter and intra state commerce 
  • Familiarity with project lifecycles, methodologies, and resource allocation. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of practices, regulations, and trends relevant to the department. 
  • Understanding techniques for managing and facilitating organizational change. 
  • Expertise in handling multiple priorities, complex schedules, and tight deadlines with efficiency. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for liaising with stakeholders, presenting reports, and facilitating meetings. 
  • Ability to identify potential risks and implement effective mitigation strategies. 
  • Self-motivated to lead initiatives and projects independently while managing team input. 
  • Flexibility to pivot strategies or workflows based on new priorities or challenges. 
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Ability to foster strong, collaborative relationships across departments and with external partners.

Desired not Required Experience

  • Forklift/Electric jack certified or knowledgeable 
  • Food Handling Certified or obtain after hired.
  • Exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to work as a part of a team as well as individually.
  • Two years’ commercial driving experience
  • Ability to effectively demonstrate customer service skills
