The Commercial Lender is responsible for attracting, developing and maintaining new commercial loans, commercial deposit, and commercial banking relationships with individuals, non-profits and businesses within the Bank’s footprint. This position also cross-sells other bank products and services to this targeted client group and represents the Bank within the community.


Essential Job Functions

  • Seeks out new business opportunities within the Bank’s defined market areas and participates in business development efforts to attract and retain quality clients; develops and maintains professional relationships with referral sources, including business brokers, accountants, attorneys, and other centers of influence. 
  • Screens and interviews new loan applicants, collects and analyzes financial and related data to establish creditworthiness, negotiates credit terms when necessary, and monitors loan repayment activities. 
  • Promotes and sells related Bank financial products and services while working with business partners to expand existing client relationships and acquire new business. 
  • Partners with the Portfolio Manager to manage all aspects of the loan relationship, including credit analysis and approvals, loan closing, timely completion of credit file commentary, collection of financial information, and proactive identification and mitigation of potential risks. 
  • Maintains current knowledge of Bank products, services, procedures, policies, and applicable regulatory and compliance requirements through team meetings and required training; ensures adherence to federal and state laws, Bank policies, and requirements including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), as applicable to the role. 
  • Verifies transactions and account balances to ensure accuracy and compliance with Bank policies and applicable regulations, while participating in civic, social, and community relations activities to promote and strengthen the Bank’s presence and reputation.
Requirements

 Qualifications, Experience, and Education

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in commercial lending and commercial banking required; bachelor’s degree with a business focus preferred. 
  • Strong working knowledge of credit structure, Bank policy guidelines, and key factors used to assess credit quality; demonstrated ability to evaluate applicant risk profiles, structure credit appropriately, and actively manage lending risk. 
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial loan, deposit, and Treasury products; formal sales and/or credit training preferred. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related software. 
  • Highly organized and proactive planner with strong time management, verbal, and written communication skills.

The salary range represents an estimate based on market data for this position. Final compensation decisions are made based on experience, skills, and internal equity to ensure fairness and consistency across our organization.
