The Accounting Specialist works as a key member of the Victory Junction Finance Team, supporting the team in administering day-to-day accounting operations and is responsible for accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, cash receipts, expense transactions, camp store accounting and other financial records. This position works closely with the Accounting Manager and CFO to maintain accurate financial information, support internal controls, and assist with month-end and year-end accounting activities.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time. 

  • Manage accounts payable processing, including reviewing invoices for appropriate documentation, coding, approvals, and timely payment
  • Serve as an administrator for Bill, including vendor setup and maintenance
  • Process and reconcile Spend & Expense credit card transactions, ensuring appropriate documentation, coding and approvals
  • Record cash receipts and deposits and maintain supporting documentation
  • Manage camp store accounting, including sales activity, inventory transactions, reconciliations, and related financial reporting
  • Maintain and reconcile prepaid expense schedules, providing information necessary for accounting entries
  • Maintain vendor records, obtain and review W9 documentation, and assist with 1099 reporting
  • Assist Accounting Manager with sales tax returns
  • Maintain and manage accounting records in accordance with document retention policies
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close by providing schedules, documentation, reconciliations, and other information as requested

Education & Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree (Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred)
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, nonprofit preferred
  • Proficiency with BILL, Financial Edge or similar systems
  • Strong attention to detail, organization and communication skills
  • Ability to work strategically while being hands-on with daily accounting functions
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate across departments
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and Office
