Responsibilities:

Scope:

The candidate shall be responsible for Safety and Environmental duties. These duties will include:  

  • Project design and specification review; training oversight; Assistant Safety Officer assignments in Radiation Safety and Laser System Safety;
  • Assistant Program Manager assignments for Confined Space, Asbestos, Lead, Hazardous Materials and Air Quality;
  • Knowledge of Navy, Federal, State and local safety/environmental regulations related to asbestos/lead containment, removal and disposal; assist in safety inspections at worksites.

Safety Program Support:

The candidate shall apply Navy, Federal, State and local safety/environmental regulations related to asbestos/lead containment, removal and disposal; review/maintain Authorized User List (AUL) to eliminate/control personnel exposure to hazardous material in the workplace; conduct inspections at worksites and identify/record potential unsafe conditions in ESAMS; evaluate and recommend IAQ improvements in the work environment; serve as the VPP coordinator as per the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance criteria; update/maintain ESAMS database.


Safety Engineering:

The candidate shall review plans/specifications for adequacy of safety-related controls for all existing and/or planned projects; organize, coordinate and develop safety and health training; update/maintain ESAMS database.

Candidate shall also act as:

  • Assistant Radiation Safety Officer (ARSO) maintaining an effective ionizing radiation safety program;
  • Assistant Laser System Safety Officer (ALSSO) maintaining an effective non-ionizing radiation program; and
  • Assistant Confined Space Program Manager (ACSPM) maintaining an effective confined space entry program.
Requirements

 Target Experience: Twenty (20) years of experience as a safety engineer, and must be certified as an ARSO, ALSSO and ACSPM.

Target Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited University;

• ARSO training IAW NAVSEA S0420-AA-RAD-010;

• ALSSO training IAW OPNAVINST 5100.27; and

• ACSPM training IAW OPNAVINST 5100.23.


Must be a US citizen and hold an active SECRET DoD security clearance.
