The Senior Healthcare Revenue Cycle Data Analyst supports the organization’s portfolio of hospital and health system clients by analyzing complex healthcare data to improve revenue cycle performance, identify reimbursement opportunities, and drive operational excellence. Working closely with hospital revenue cycle leaders, EMR and analytics teams, HFS operational leadership, product managers, and technology teams, this role transforms data into actionable business intelligence, automated workflows, and scalable technology-driven solutions. The Senior Analyst leverages advanced analytical expertise to develop reporting, identify trends, optimize financial outcomes, and support data-driven decision-making across multiple health systems.
Responsibilities
Revenue Cycle Analytics & Performance Improvement
- Analyze hospital revenue cycle data to identify reimbursement opportunities, payment delays, denial trends, insurance-related issues, and barriers to collections.
- Conduct root-cause analyses of revenue cycle challenges related to eligibility, claims processing, payer adjudication, denials, and accounts receivable.
- Perform payer, aging, variance, trend, cohort, and reimbursement analyses to identify performance improvement opportunities.
- Develop methodologies to identify, prioritize, and manage patient and account populations appropriate for HFS programs and services.
- Translate complex analytical findings into actionable recommendations for hospital clients, operational teams, and executive leadership.
EMR, Healthcare Data & System Integration
- Support clients utilizing Epic, Oracle Health, MEDITECH, and other hospital information systems.
- Partner with hospital revenue cycle, analytics, reporting, IT, and EMR teams to obtain, analyze, and validate critical revenue cycle data.
- Interpret and standardize data related to patients, encounters, accounts, claims, coverage, payers, payments, denials, adjustments, and eligibility information.
- Identify and resolve data quality, mapping, reconciliation, and integration issues across multiple healthcare systems.
- Develop and maintain data dictionaries, business definitions, and data mapping specifications.
Epic Analytics & Reporting
- Utilize Epic SlicerDicer to perform patient and account population analysis, exploratory research, and business validation.
- Analyze Epic revenue cycle data including claims, hospital accounts, coverage, payer activity, denials, and reimbursement information.
- Collaborate with Epic application, Cogito, reporting, and analytics teams to support reporting and data extraction initiatives.
- Translate Epic-specific workflows and data structures into standardized business rules and analytical requirements.
- Leverage experience with Epic Clarity, Caboodle, Cogito, and Reporting Workbench when applicable.
Healthcare EDI Analysis
- Analyze healthcare EDI transactions related to insurance eligibility, enrollment, claims, reimbursement, and claim status activities.
- Apply knowledge of ANSI X12 transactions including:
- 270/271 Eligibility Inquiry and Response
- 834 Benefit Enrollment and Maintenance
- 277 Claim Status Transactions
- 837 Claims
- 835 Remittance Advice
- 276/277 Claim Status Transactions
- Correlate EDI information with hospital account, insurance, billing, payment, and denial data to identify reimbursement opportunities and processing issues.
Client Onboarding & Data Discovery
- Lead data discovery sessions with client revenue cycle, technology, analytics, and integration teams.
- Assess client workflows, systems, data sources, interfaces, reports, APIs, and EDI feeds.
- Define customer data requirements and map client-specific information to HFS standardized data models.
- Validate patient populations, account inventories, and revenue cycle datasets during onboarding and implementation activities.
- Establish repeatable validation, reconciliation, and quality assurance processes for new client implementations.
Product Development & Business Innovation
- Partner with Product Management and Engineering teams to translate revenue cycle expertise into technology solutions and business rules.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and develop scalable data-driven workflows.
- Contribute subject matter expertise to new product development, analytics initiatives, and service offerings.
- Help define industry best practices, operational standards, and analytical methodologies that support continued company growth.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, Health Information Management, Business Analytics, Finance, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in healthcare revenue cycle operations, financial analysis, healthcare analytics, or related fields.
- Strong understanding of the end-to-end hospital revenue cycle, including insurance eligibility, claims processing, denials management, payer reimbursement, collections, and accounts receivable.
- Demonstrated experience working with Epic revenue cycle data and Epic SlicerDicer.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare EDI transactions, including 270/271, 834, and 277 transactions.
- Experience analyzing large healthcare datasets and identifying actionable business insights.
- Ability to translate business requirements into analytical frameworks, data requirements, and operational solutions.
- Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and client relationships in a dynamic environment.
Qualifications
- Experience supporting multiple hospitals or health systems within a healthcare service, consulting, managed services, or healthcare technology environment.
- Experience with Oracle Health and/or MEDITECH platforms.
- Advanced SQL and relational database analysis skills.
- Experience with Epic Clarity, Caboodle, Cogito, Reporting Workbench, or other healthcare analytics tools.
- Epic certification or advanced Epic proficiency.
- Experience with healthcare data mapping, transformation specifications, data normalization, and master data management.
- Knowledge of denial management, insurance discovery, coverage verification, and payer reimbursement optimization.
- Experience onboarding healthcare data into third-party applications and technology platforms.
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, Excel, or similar reporting and visualization tools.
