Description

Reporting to the Logistics Manager, the Logistics Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day execution of Murdoch’s inbound transportation program. This position coordinates freight routing and shipment visibility across multiple transportation modes, including small parcel, LTL, FTL, and ocean imports. The Logistics Coordinator works closely with vendors, carriers, buyers, distribution centers, and stores to ensure shipments are routed appropriately, delivered on time, and compliant with Murdoch’s transportation requirements.

The position maintains transportation records, tracking systems, logistics spreadsheets, and ocean container visibility while supporting vendor compliance and transportation process improvements. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive, comfortable working independently in a remote environment, and interested in developing a career in transportation and supply chain operations.

As a Murdoch's Team Member, you will...

Transportation Coordination & Routing
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments utilizing small parcel, LTL, FTL, and other transportation modes as required.
  • Help vendors determine the appropriate transportation mode based on shipment size, weight, destination, service requirements, and the Murdoch’s Routing Guide.
  • Route vendor shipments according to the Murdoch’s Routing Guide using approved carriers and service levels.
  • Proactively monitor purchase orders and inbound freight activity to identify shipments requiring routing attention.
  • Review routing requests for completeness and accuracy and follow up with vendors or buyers when required information is missing.
  • Schedule freight pickups and coordinate delivery appointments when needed.
  • Maintain visibility of pending routing requests to support timely carrier tendering and pickup.
  • Assist with route planning, load scheduling, multi-stop deliveries, and backhaul opportunities as directed.

Shipment Visibility & Tracking

  • Maintain visibility of inbound shipments from pickup through final delivery.
  • Track transportation activity using the Transportation Management System (TMS), logistics spreadsheets, carrier systems, and other department tools.
  • Communicate shipment status, delays, and exceptions to buyers, vendors, carriers, stores, and distribution centers.
  • Research delayed, damaged, missing, or misrouted shipments and coordinate follow-up through resolution.
  • Maintain accurate transportation records, delivery dates, freight costs, and shipment documentation.

Import & Ocean Freight Visibility

  • Track and maintain visibility of inbound ocean containers from origin through final delivery.
  • Update ocean container schedules, milestone dates, estimated arrival information, and shipment status in department tracking tools.
  • Coordinate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, drayage providers, carriers, and distribution centers regarding container movement and delivery.
  • Monitor import shipment exceptions and communicate delays, exams, storage concerns, or other issues to the Logistics Manager and affected internal teams.
  • Maintain accurate import shipment records, container activity, transportation costs, and supporting documentation.

Vendor Compliance & Communication

  • Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for transportation-related vendor questions.
  • Communicate routing instructions, shipping requirements, and compliance expectations to vendors.
  • Support vendor compliance with the Murdoch’s Routing Guide and identify recurring compliance issues.
  • Work with vendors, buyers, Accounting, and the Logistics Manager to research non-compliant shipments and support corrective action.
  • Support vendor onboarding and transportation training efforts as needed.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with vendors, carriers, and internal business partners.

Freight Exceptions, Audit & Claims Support

  • Investigate and help resolve missed pickups, delivery delays, shortages, damages, overages, and routing discrepancies.
  • Coordinate corrective actions with vendors, carriers, distribution centers, stores, and buyers.
  • Review freight charges and supporting documentation for discrepancies and assist with invoice research.
  • Assist with freight claims, disputes, and recovery efforts while maintaining supporting records.

Reporting, Systems & Process Support

  • Maintain logistics spreadsheets, shipment tracking tools, transportation records, and operational reports.
  • Run daily, weekly, and monthly reports needed to support transportation execution and visibility.
  • Utilize the TMS and other department resources to support daily operations while recognizing that the system is a tool supporting transportation execution.
  • Assist with testing and adoption of transportation processes and tools.
  • Identify and recommend practical process improvements that increase visibility, accuracy, efficiency, and follow-through.
  • Assist the Logistics Manager with transportation initiatives, special projects, carrier activities, and seasonal freight planning as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Requirements

  • Ability to analyze information, recognize missing details, and solve transportation-related problems.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to learn transportation, routing, carrier operations, and supply chain processes.
  • Experience in logistics, transportation, supply chain, customer service, retail, or distribution operations is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with a TMS and knowledge of small parcel, LTL, FTL, and ocean transportation are preferred.
