At Atlantic Emergency Solutions and Atlantic Heavy Duty, our employees support organizations that provide and service fire trucks, ambulances, refuse vehicles, and equipment that our customers rely on every day. We are looking for an experienced Human Resources Generalist to join our HR team and provide support across both companies and multiple locations.


This position will have a strong focus on employee relations, compliance, leave administration, workers’ compensation, HRIS administration, and reporting, with additional support provided for recruiting and onboarding as needed. You will work directly with employees and managers across multiple locations and play an important role in supporting our employees and the needs of both organizations. This position reports to the Vice President of Human Resources.

Key Job Duties:

  • Provide general Human Resources support, including employee relations, workplace investigations, HRIS updates, reporting, compliance, and other day-to-day HR needs
  • Assist with employee relations matters and workplace investigations, including gathering information, conducting interviews, documenting findings, and maintaining appropriate records
  • Administer the FMLA leave process from an employee’s initial notice of the need for leave through return to work
  • Determine FMLA eligibility, provide and gather required documentation, designate qualifying leave, request medical certification as needed, and track intermittent and reduced schedule leave
  • Maintain appropriate communication with employees while on leave and coordinate necessary communication between employees and managers
  • Administer workers’ compensation claims, including documenting incidents, telephone conversations, witness statements, medical information, and accident investigation findings
  • Ensure workers’ compensation forms and supporting documentation are properly completed, maintained, and submitted within required timeframes
  • Prepare and submit required annual OSHA reports and maintain appropriate OSHA records and documentation
  • Gather, compile, analyze, and interpret data needed for internal and external EEO compliance, reporting, and monitoring, including hiring, terminations, promotions, disciplinary actions, compensation, applicant flow, and transfers
  • Prepare required EEO and affirmative action reports and supporting documentation for review by the Vice President of Human Resources
  • Maintain and update employee information within the HRIS and assist with HR reporting and recordkeeping
  • Maintain accurate and confidential Human Resources records in accordance with company policies and applicable requirements
  • Provide recruiting support as needed, including job postings, candidate screening, interviews, and coordination of the hiring process
  • Assist with background checks, pre-employment requirements, employment eligibility verification, and new hire onboarding
  • Participate in job fairs and recruiting events as needed
  • Provide Human Resources support to employees and managers across multiple company locations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field and five years of progressive Human Resources experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Broad Human Resources experience with an emphasis on employee relations, compliance, leave administration, and workers’ compensation
  • Working knowledge of Human Resources practices and applicable employment laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of FMLA requirements and experience administering employee leaves
  • Knowledge of workers’ compensation laws, administrative requirements, and related medical and legal terminology
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements and occupational health and safety recordkeeping
  • Knowledge of EEO regulations, compliance reporting requirements, and disability accommodation processes
  • Experience working with HRIS systems, reporting, and employee records
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with employees, managers, leadership, and outside organizations
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately
  • Ability to work independently, use sound judgment, and know when an issue needs to be escalated

Work environment and physical demands

  • This position primarily works in an office environment and requires extended periods of sitting and working at a computer
  • The role requires regular communication by phone, email, video conference, and in person
