Position Summary
The Marketing & Content Assistant supports the Valley Services Marketing Department with a primary focus on capturing, organizing, and preparing photo and video content that showcases our people, services, equipment, jobsites, company culture, and community involvement.
This is a hands-on, entry-level marketing position that combines office-based responsibilities with regular fieldwork at job sites, the Valley Services yard, Transfer Facility, company events, and community events.
In addition to photo and video content creation, this position will support email marketing, newsletters, graphic design, social media, digital asset organization, reputation monitoring, and other marketing initiatives as assigned.
The ideal candidate is creative, dependable, highly organized, comfortable working in both office and field environments, and interested in developing their experience across multiple areas of marketing and content production.
Key Responsibilities
Photo & Video Content Capture
• Capture photos and video at job sites, the Valley Services yard, Transfer Facility, company events, community events, and other designated locations.
• Capture content highlighting employees, company culture, equipment, vehicles, services, projects, events, and day-to-day operations.
• Capture content with social media, email marketing, website, recruiting, internal communications, and other marketing uses in mind.
• Log, tag, organize, and back up content from each shoot within the same workweek.
• Maintain an organized and searchable digital photo and video library.
• Follow established Valley Services brand standards and direction from the Marketing Director when capturing content.
• Coordinate with the Marketing Director regarding upcoming content needs, field opportunities, events, and priority shoots.
Newsletter & Email Marketing Support
• Gather and organize photos, company updates, employee highlights, event information, and other content for newsletters and email campaigns.
• Assist with building, formatting, reviewing, and proofreading email marketing materials.
• Maintain email lists and assist with list organization and hygiene.
• Pull and organize basic campaign performance information following email sends.
• Support additional email marketing initiatives as assigned.
Graphic & Marketing Asset Production
• Create social media graphics, flyers, event materials, signage, and other basic marketing assets using Canva and approved Valley Services templates.
• Perform basic photo editing, cleanup, cropping, resizing, and formatting.
• Prepare marketing assets in appropriate dimensions and formats for social media, email, print, and other platforms.
• Follow Valley Services brand standards to maintain consistency across marketing materials.
Marketing Organization & Reputation Monitoring
• Maintain organized marketing folders, files, naming conventions, templates, and digital assets.
• Ensure photos, videos, graphics, and other marketing materials are properly saved and easily accessible.
• Assist with maintaining current versions of approved marketing and brand materials.
• Monitor online reviews, company mentions, and other relevant brand activity.
• Flag reviews, comments, mentions, or other activity requiring attention to the Marketing Director.
Social Media Support
• Assist with drafting captions and preparing content for the Valley Services social media calendar.
• Organize photos, videos, graphics, and other assets for scheduled content.
• Assist with researching relevant content ideas, trends, and opportunities.
• Support the creation and editing of short-form video content for platforms such as Instagram and TikTok.
• Ensure content remains consistent with Valley Services branding, messaging, and company standards.
• All social media posts and public-facing content must be reviewed and approved by the Marketing Director prior to publication unless otherwise authorized.
• Perform additional marketing and content-related responsibilities as assigned based on department and company needs.
Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Valid California driver's license required.
• Reliable personal transportation and current automobile insurance required.
• Ability and willingness to travel locally between Valley Services facilities, job sites, events, and other assigned locations.
• Mileage for approved business travel will be reimbursed in accordance with company policy and applicable law.
• Smartphone with a camera capable of capturing quality photo and video content.
• Comfortable working around trucks, heavy equipment, active job sites, and industrial environments while following all required safety procedures.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet established deadlines.
• Ability to follow established file naming, storage, brand, and organizational procedures.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating with the Marketing Director and other Valley Services team members.
• Professional, dependable, and comfortable representing Valley Services at job sites, events, and within the community.
• Familiarity with Canva, CapCut, Instagram, TikTok, or similar content creation and social media platforms preferred.
• Photography or videography experience preferred.
• Experience with DSLR or mirrorless cameras is a plus.
• Coursework, education, or experience in Marketing, Communications, Film, Digital Media, Graphic Design, or a related field is preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to perform work in both office and field environments.
• Ability to regularly walk and stand while capturing content at job sites, company facilities, and events.
• Ability to safely navigate active job sites, outdoor environments, uneven surfaces, and areas where vehicles and heavy equipment may be operating.
• Ability to use a smartphone, camera, computer, and other standard marketing and office equipment.
• Ability to travel locally between company facilities, job sites, events, and other assigned locations.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions when required for content capture, field assignments, or company events.
• Must follow all Valley Services safety policies, procedures, and site-specific requirements while working in operational or field environments.
Productivity and Performance Expectations
The Marketing & Content Assistant is expected to maintain a high level of organization, professionalism, creativity, reliability, and attention to detail while supporting the Marketing Department.
Performance expectations include consistently capturing usable and on-brand content, completing assigned projects within established timelines, maintaining an organized and searchable media library, communicating effectively regarding assignments and scheduling, and following Valley Services brand and safety standards.
The Marketing & Content Assistant is expected to demonstrate initiative and identify potential content opportunities while understanding that public-facing content, social media activity, and external marketing communications remain subject to the company's established review and approval process.
Performance and responsibilities will be reviewed periodically based on department needs, individual development, and overall performance.
