Engagement Overview
Our agency, DH, is seeking an independent accounting professional or accounting services business to provide accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, reconciliation, and related accounting services.
This engagement is intended for an experienced accounting professional who can independently manage agreed-upon accounting deliverables, maintain accurate financial records, identify and resolve discrepancies, and provide timely accounting support.
The engagement is project-based and deliverable-focused. The contractor will independently determine the methods, schedule, and approach used to complete the agreed-upon services while meeting mutually established deadlines. The contractor will operate as an independent business providing professional services to DH under a written agreement.
A designated DH contact will be available to provide necessary agency information, system access, priorities, deadlines, and clarification regarding deliverables.
Scope of Services and Deliverables
Accounting services may include:
- Processing, reviewing, and reconciling accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions
- Preparing and tracking client invoices and supporting collection activities
- Reviewing, allocating, posting, and reconciling financial transactions
- Reconciling company credit card activity and identifying missing documentation or discrepancies
- Maintaining accurate supporting records for invoices, receipts, payments, deposits, and other financial transactions
- Preparing reconciliations, financial reports, and supporting accounting documentation
- Supporting periodic accounting activities such as month-end processes, 1099 preparation, audit requests, surveys, and recertifications
- Communicating with vendors and clients regarding invoices, payments, account balances, discrepancies, and other accounting matters
- Researching accounting discrepancies and recommending appropriate resolutions
- Identifying opportunities to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and organization of accounting processes and documentation
Engagement Terms
- This is a non-exclusive independent contractor engagement
- The contractor will determine their own work schedule, methods, and approach for completing agreed-upon services and deliverables, subject to mutually established deadlines
- The contractor will generally provide their own equipment and tools, with DH providing access to internal systems or information when necessary to complete specific services
- The contractor may provide accounting or other professional services to additional clients during the engagement
- The contractor will maintain their own independent business operations and any licenses, registrations, insurance, or other business requirements applicable to their services
- Compensation will be based on agreed-upon rates and services as outlined in the independent contractor agreement
- The contractor is responsible for their own taxes, insurance, benefits, and business expenses
Preferred Experience and Background
- Experience independently providing accounting, bookkeeping, or related financial services
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, client billing, collections, reconciliations, and financial recordkeeping
- Working knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with accounting software
- Experience with Advantage or similar project-based accounting systems is a plus
- Ability to independently review financial information, identify discrepancies, and determine appropriate next steps
- Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to produce accurate and timely accounting work
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive financial and business information
- Clear and professional communication with clients, vendors, and organizational contacts
- Relevant education, professional training, certification, or equivalent accounting experience
- Experience providing similar services to businesses or organizations as an independent professional is preferred
Independent Contractor Relationship
The selected contractor will provide services as an independent business and not as an employee of DH. The contractor will retain control over the manner and means used to complete the agreed-upon services, subject to the requirements, deliverables, and deadlines established in the independent contractor agreement.
The contractor is responsible for maintaining any business registrations, licenses, insurance, tax accounts, or other requirements applicable to their independent business and the services provided.
