Financial Wellness Counselor
Description

Provide confidential, professional, and empathetic support to Aspire Financial Counseling members and internal departments. Consistently enhance the member experience by exceeding expectations and delivering meaningful value during every interaction. Demonstrate a strong passion for empowering members through personalized financial coaching, helping them achieve their financial goals, manage debt effectively, and build long-term financial wellness.   

  • Deliver exceptional member service by applying member-focused problem-solving skills and formulating creative, personalized financial solutions.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of members' or clients’ financial situations, including analysis of income, assets, debts, expenses, credit reports, and other relevant financial data for 75 members
  • Develop and implement tailored financial strategies such as debt management plans, spending plans, and budgets to help members achieve their financial goals. Provide timelines for debt repayment, estimated interest costs, and cash flow availability. Regularly review and adjust plans based on changes in a member’s family, employment, or financial circumstances.
  • Negotiate with creditors on behalf of members or clients to arrange more favorable terms, including interest rate reductions, extended payment timelines, or restructured repayment plans.
  • Educate members about KALSEE products and services, empowering them to make informed decisions and fostering financial independence.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic record of all account activities, financial transactions, counseling session notes, document images, and other relevant information for future reference.
  • Investigate and resolve issues related to missing deposits, held or returned funds, payment discrepancies, or other member, client, or creditor concerns.
  • Ensure timely and accurate disbursement of funds to creditors via ACH or BillPay, when applicable.
  • Community involvement and participation with schools, MCUL events, referral partners. Ability to provide financial wellness presentations. 
  • Monitor activities to ensure full compliance with internal policies, procedures, and applicable regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) guidelines.
  • Participate in annual compliance training as mandated by the BSA/OFAC Compliance Officer.

Requirements
  • Bachelors Degree preferred, High School Diploma or equivalent required 
  • Excellent member service skills 
  • Minimum 2 years of credit union or banking experience in a branch environment preferred
  • Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor (CCUFC) preferred (May be obtained post-hire) 
  • State of Michigan Financial Counseling Certification preferred (May be obtained post-hire)
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail 
  • Proficient using Microsoft office products
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
