MD&A is looking for an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to provide leadership, oversight and commitment to the development, implementation and administration of Environmental, Health and Safety programs for the Industrial Gas Turbine (IGT) Division, including the San Antonio Service Center (SSC) and the Houston Service Center (HSC).
The EHS Manager will manage training programs, ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations and company standards, participate in the incident/ hazard investigation process and assist in the implementation of corrective actions. Additionally, this role will work collaboratively with leadership to drive a continuous improvement mindset with appropriate accountability for EHS.
Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for managing all aspects of the environmental health and safety function including, compliance with OSHA, EPA, exposure assessment, industrial hygiene, training development, risk assessments, recordkeeping, reporting, environmental reporting and emergency response.
- Handle all regulatory correspondence, permitting and reporting as well as all interaction with a variety of agencies, including, OSHA, State (Ex. TCEQ) and local fire and health officials.
- Devise, develop and monitor effective EH&S management strategies and make recommendations on the implementation of these strategies. Ensure Safety Hazard Reduction and Collaboration (SHRC) Teams are working effectively and focused on continuous improvement.
- Facilitate EHS training program and coordinate/conduct/document operator assessments (Mobile Equipment, Crane and Rigging, First Responder, etc.)
- Oversee the development, planning and implementation of environmental, occupational health and safety programs and policies/procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain EHS Compliance records and tracks leading indicators, monitoring indicators and inspections for safety health, and environmental management systems and annual required programs.
- Facilitate the ongoing work for energy-based safety for IGT, collaborating on improvements and progression with other MD&A facilities.
- Serve as a technical/regulatory resource in the areas of occupational safety, industrial hygiene and health.
- Provide oversite, management, and mentoring of HSC EHS Specialist.
- Overnight travel < 20% by land and/or air.
Education/Certifications/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering or related field from four-year College or university
- Minimum of five (5) years related experience and/or training
- Successful completion of a board safety certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health & Safety Technician (OHST) or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
Technical
- Working experience and knowledge of OSHA, DOT, Waste management and Environmental Regulations, including ongoing maintenance of permits, reporting and site compliance
Other Skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniques
- Demonstrated ability to identify known potential exposures and lead implementation of corrective and preventative actions
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing and train others (communication skills up and down organizational structure)
- Demonstrated computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office suite programs
Physical Requirements
- Physical ability to stand, walk, and remain active for the majority of the workday
- Physical ability to climb permanent and temporary ladders or stairs, navigate passenger use of personnel hoists, and the ability to walk/climb/navigate uneven surfaces and negotiate active work areas as needed
- Performing this job requires use of hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with DOT Hazardous Materials; RCRA Hazardous Waste Management; SPCC / Storm Water Permit processes, and Air Permits.
- Experience with Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) and/or Serious Injury and Fatality Prevention (Energy Based Safety)
