Maintenance Technician
Description

Working under the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician maintains and repairs the facilities, equipment, and buildings of the St. Tammany Parish Library System. The maintenance technician should have a strong background in general maintenance, commitment to quality craftsmanship, and the ability to work independently and with a team.

Requirements
  • Prioritizes safety and compliance with local, state, and federal laws to maintain safe facilities and working environments
  • Proficient in the use of personal protective equipment 
  • Work with hand and power tools to complete maintenance tasks
  • Perform routine or preventative maintenance on library facilities and equipment including but not limited to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry work
  • Paint and repair drywall to maintain appearance and functionality of the library
  • Perform moderate plumbing tasks, including fixing leaks and unclogging drains
  • Complete moderate electrical work, including replacing outlets and light fixtures and troubleshooting electrical issues 
  • Conduct regular inspections of library facilities to identify maintenance needs
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests from supervisor and work order system
  • Collaborate with other library staff to schedule maintenance work with minimal disruption to library services
  • Respond to emergencies and provide temporary or lasting repairs
  • Drive vehicles to various locations within the STPL service area and other areas as needed or directed
  • Substitute for the courier book route, potentially on short notice to cover a single day or extended periods
  • Attend meetings and training as directed by Library administration or Maintenance supervisor
  • Performs other duties and assignments as designated by Management  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· General maintenance knowledge

· Able to work independently and with a team

· Knowledgeable on safety protocols and how to safely operate tools and equipment

· Able to work some late evenings and weekends as needed

Working Conditions

Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor conditions and may be exposed to varying temperatures and weather conditions. The noise levels may vary and may frequently work in a noisy work environment. Work may involve exposure to dust, dirt, pests, common environmental factors, and potentially biohazardous materials, such as human and animal bodily fluids, feces, vomit, and deceased animals. Also involves wearing proper personal protective equipment when performing certain tasks. 

Physical Requirements

· Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy objects weighing up to 60 pounds without assistance

· Must be able to assist team members in lifting objects weighing up to 150 pounds

· Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching is required

· Comfortable working at elevated heights and using ladders, scaffolding, being on rooftops, and using aerial lifts

· Able to work in enclosed and tight spaces

· Must have the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time

· Must possess manual dexterity for operating tools and equipment

Education, Training, Experience

· Requires a high school diploma or equivalent

· HVAC experience and certifications are highly desired

· Prior maintenance experience is preferred but not required

· Must have a clean driving record for the past three years

· Must possess a valid drivers license

Salary Description
$20.01 to $27.01 /hour
