Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday /1:30pm - 10:00pm


Summary:

Under the general direction of the Lead Medical Coordinator, the Medical Clerk assists with the coordination and implementation of medical services provided to UAC. The Medical Clerk uses sound medical and professional judgment and best practices to support the medical safety and well-being of UAC. The Medical Clerk works collaboratively with Lead Medical Coordinator and Medical Coordinator to ensure the medical, dental, mental health and physical needs of UAC are met in accordance with agency policy, TDFPS Minimum Standards, and ORR Policy. 

Requirements

Position Responsibilities:

  • *Compiling, preparing, submitting and maintaining accurate records, files, forms, statistics and additional information in accordance with agency policy, DFPS Minimum Standards and ORR Policy;
  • *Ensuring medical services are completed and documented in the UAC Portal within required timeframes and in accordance with agency DFPS Minimum Standards and ORR Policy;
  • Completing and submitting reports within required timeframes;
  • *Providing health education and training for staff and UAC;
  • Assisting with the maintenance of medical supply, prescription medication, and over-the-counter medication inventories;
  • *Providing oversight and monitoring of medication administration to UAC including, medication counts, label accuracy, and reporting of medication errors; *
  • *Maintaining the safety and well-being of children through supervision, adherence to program policies, and appropriate interventions. This may include the use of approved crisis management techniques, such as physical containment, when necessary to protect the child or others from harm.
  • Deliver client services and all daily interactions within the Sanctuary Model framework
  • Scheduling accompanying and/or providing transportation to medical appointments when needed;
  • Ensuring medical services are provided in a manner that promotes best practices and facilitates the optimum delivery of quality trauma informed care to UAC;
  • Completing other assigned duties in absence of the Medical Clerk or Lead Medical Care Coordinator; 
  • Actively participating in the enhancement and/or improvement of the living and working environment for residents and employees;
  • Attending administrative staff meetings, staff retreats, and other team building activities as scheduled;
  • Demonstrating knowledge and sensitivity of cultural norms, values and heritage; 
  • Assuming ON-CALL duties after regular business hours, including nights, weekends and holidays;
  • Attendance and successful completion of a 10- day New Employee Orientation is mandated for the position. The inability to meet this requirement will conclude employment with the Agency.
  • Must ensure the completion of all required professional development assignments in a timely manner for their direct reports.
  • Must be sensitive to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Adhering to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, and taking precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of self, and others.  
  • Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
  • Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Education
    • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent 
  • Experience
    • Minimum one-year employment experience in the medical field;
    • Experience in the child welfare field preferred.
  • License and Credentials
    • Certified Medical Assistant or equivalent 
    • Must be at least 21 years of age
    • Must have a valid driver license with a clean driving record
    • Must maintain valid vehicle liability insurance.

Able to show proof of immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases transmitted by the respiratory route if working directly with unaccompanied children;

  • Varicella: two doses of varicella vaccine (at least 4 weeks apart) OR born in the United States before 1980 with a reported history of chickenpox (verified by an adult present at the time of illness) OR titers indicating varicella immunity OR documentation from healthcare provider verifying previous infection.
  • MMR: two doses of MMR vaccine (at least 4 weeks apart) OR titers indicating immunity to all three diseases
  • Tdap: One Tdap does within the past 10 years.
  • Influenza: one dose annually during flu season (August/September-June).
  • Compliance with state licensing requirements for all other health screenings and requirements, including tuberculosis (TB) screening, as applicable. 

 Minimum Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Windows (Microsoft Word, Excel) and a variety of online database systems, managing files and records, designing forms and other office procedures and terminology;
  • Strong analytical and organization skills and abilities;
  • Must be able to read and interpret policy, procedures and standards;
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team;
  • Must have good written and verbal skills;
  • Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Must be able to remain calm and composed in crisis situations;
  • *Bilingual: Fluent in English/Spanish with regards to reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension of the spoken language.

Salary Description
