National Trade Supply sells the products every home needs but nobody wants to shop for. Through discountfilters.com and Amazon, we help consumers find the right replacement filters and household consumables fast, with a shopping experience built to remove friction. We also manufacture many of our own air and water filtration products, which gives us control over quality, cost, and supply that most online sellers don't have.
Our ambition is to become a trusted supplier to a meaningful share of American homes that browse and buy online. We're climbing two routes at once: multiplying our marketplace business as our primary growth engine, and expanding our D2C site with discipline. Both run on the same framework. We capture demand wherever consumers search, convert first-time buyers at the right cost, turn them into lifetime customers, and grow with them into new product categories.
We run the business on ClimbOS, our own operating model, built on a simple belief: profit isn't managed directly. It's the result of the right people, a clear purpose, documented processes, and an honest weekly execution rhythm. We're candid about where we are. Too much of how we operate still lives in people's heads, and we've learned that activity not tied to outcomes doesn't move the business. Fixing that is the work.
This is where you come in. Finance at NTS exists to fund the climb, measure it honestly, and tell leadership the truth about whether it's working. This is a true CFO seat, not a controller role with a bigger title. You'll own capital allocation, the integrity of our financials, and the economic case behind our strategy, with the authority to say no when a dollar can't earn its way back.
We're looking for someone who loves process and precision. You find real satisfaction in a clean close, a documented procedure, and a forecast that holds. You plan before you act, follow through without being chased, and build systems that outlast you. Our leadership team brings speed and vision; we need the leader who brings structure, rhythm, and consistency to everything we build.
You'll personally hold the Head of Finance seat and lead the accounting team directly, and that's a long-term part of the role, not a temporary assignment. Once finance runs to standard, you'll add leadership of our operating system: running the weekly rhythm, holding leaders accountable to their strategic projects and scorecards, and turning ambitious goals into steady execution. For the right person, this is a clear path to COO.
Key Responsibilities
CFO Accountabilities
- Set and maintain a value-accretive investment threshold grounded in our true cost of capital, along with a minimum cash reserve policy sized to the business's risk profile.
- Require a documented business case and CFO gate approval, scaled to the size of the ask, before any capital project, material new spend, or material working capital investment is funded.
- Deliver a clean review conclusion each fiscal year, with zero unresolved material weaknesses.
- Confirm each quarter that department scorecard performance reconciles to actual financial results, and correct any gap at its source.
- Independently validate, before the strategic plan is adopted, that its growth targets are supported by real scorecard metrics and grounded economics.
Lead, manage, and hold accountable the Finance & Accounting function. Head of Finance Accountabilities (Held by the CFO)
- Maintain a daily cash position report and a rolling 13-week cash forecast on a weekly cadence, keeping cash above the reserve floor.
- Report covenant compliance on cadence against every covenant in the credit agreement, with a forward look at compliance performance against the business plan.
- Own the business planning process and partnership model for all material decisions, working with business owners to pressure-test assumptions before a case reaches CFO gate approval.
- Deliver a quarterly reforecast and long-range plan built from the same drivers as department scorecards. Quarterly reforecasts are measured against accuracy standards for revenue, operating expenses, and EBITDA that this seat sets and tightens each cycle.
- Provide driver-based reporting for every department, including channel contribution margin and cost center performance, in time to inform each Financial Review.
Operating System Leadership (Phase Two)
- Own the execution of our operating system. The CEO sets its design and direction; you make it run every week, across every leadership team seat.
- Achieve at least 80% quarterly strategic project completion across the leadership team, with at-risk projects surfaced and resolved before quarter end.
- Maintain a prioritized issues list and serve as tiebreaker on day-to-day and cross-functional decisions.
- Ensure every core process has a documented, owned playbook.
Team Leadership
- Lead an accounting manager who holds the Head of Accounting seat and oversees a staff accountant and an offshore transaction specialist.
The Outcome We Are Seeking
In phase one, success means finance runs clean, on time, and without surprises. Within your first 90 days, we are looking for:
- A 4-day close, held consistently
- All balance sheet reconciliations current and able to pass a cold review
- Daily cash reporting and a 13-week forecast running on cadence
- Your first driver-based quarterly reforecast delivered
- Documented controls over key financial risk processes, including cash movement, vendor master changes, and journal entries
Once these standards hold, you'll begin stepping into leadership of our operating system.
Our Values
Grit, Bias for Action, Critical Thinking, Self-Awareness, and Operational Excellence. These aren't posters; they're how we make decisions, how we hold each other accountable, and what it means to succeed here.
Why Choose Us?
- Real ownership of capital decisions, with the authority to say no.
- A direct seat at the strategy table, shaping how an ambitious growth plan gets funded and delivered.
- Competitive salary and benefits.
Experience & Expertise
- Proven ability to operate at true CFO scope, whether or not you've held the title: owning capital allocation, financial integrity, and strategic finance across a multi-channel business.
- Experienced with driver-based forecasting across multi-channel P&Ls.
- Experienced with manufacturing cost accounting and inventory management.
- Strong technical accounting depth. A CPA isn't required, but you can hold the close to standard, apply GAAP with confidence, and stand behind our financials in a review without relying on outside help.
- EOS experience is a plus.
Skills & Attributes
- We're a lean team, and our leaders do the work. You'll build the forecast and financial models yourself, review the close in detail, and step in hands-on whenever the work requires it, while thinking and acting at the strategic level.
- Precise, planned, and consistent. You help turn the CEO's vision into disciplined execution, and you build processes that outlast you.
- Confident enough to own the seat. Our CEO has held the CFO role and has strong opinions; you'll challenge them, tell the CEO no when it's warranted, and say "I've got this" and prove it.
- A clear, direct communicator who translates financial complexity into decisions the business can act on.
Interview Process
Every person we add has a meaningful impact on our culture, our work, and our results. For a seat at this level, we are deliberate, and we don't trade that standard for speed.
- Introductory call with HR or CEO
- Hiring manager interview with the CEO
- Predictive Index behavioral and cognitive assessments
- Finalist day (top one to two candidates)
- Executive reference checks
Our final one to two candidates spend a full day with us. It's part interview, part working session, and part presentation. You'll present to the CEO and leadership team, work alongside members of our team, and close the day with the CEO and ownership. Expect it to be demanding. It's also the best way for both of us to see what working together actually looks like.
Predictive Index helps us understand your natural work style, how you communicate, and how you approach problems. It isn't pass or fail; it gives us a fuller picture of where you'll thrive and how to set you up for success from day one.
Great hiring works both ways. This process asks a lot, and it won't be the right fit for everyone. For candidates who want to engage fully, we're just as invested in getting to know you.
