The Faith Formation coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, and overseeing all faith formation programs within the parish. This includes elementary religious education, youth and young adult ministry, adult formation, sacramental preparation, and ongoing opportunities that support parishioners in growing in their Catholic faith.

When clergy are serving as the primary facilitators of the OCIA program, the coordinator of Faith Formation will provide administrative and programmatic support to the clergy, including coordination, communication, scheduling, record management, and related operational assistance. In this capacity, the coordinator of Faith Formation functions in a collaborative support role rather than a supervisory role over clergy.

Key Responsibilities

• Program Development & Implementation

• Design and implement comprehensive faith formation programs for all age groups (children, youth, young adults, and adults)

• Organize seasonal parish missions and events

• Oversee sacramental preparation programs (First Reconciliation, First Communion, Confirmation, OCIC & OCIA)

• Select and evaluate curriculum and educational materials aligned with Catholic Church teachings

• Ensure all programs meet diocesan guidelines and standards

• Leadership & Coordination

• Recruit and oversee youth ministry leaders and OCIA facilitators

• Recruit, train, and support catechists and volunteers

• Provide ongoing formation and resources for catechists as needed

• Coordinate scheduling for classes, events, Vacation Bible School (VBS), and sacramental preparation sessions

• Administrative Duties

• Maintain accurate records of participants, sacraments, and attendance

• Manage program registration and associated fees

• Oversee and manage the faith formation budget

• Ensure compliance with safe environment policies and documentation

• Support families in their role as primary educators of the faith

• Be present at parish events, liturgies, and sacramental celebrations as required

Requirements

  

Qualifications

• Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church

• Strong knowledge of Catholic teachings and sacramental life

• Experience in parish ministry, teaching, or catechesis preferred

• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills

• Ability to collaborate effectively with clergy, staff, and volunteers

Work Schedule

This is a part-time position primarily based onsite at St. Maria Goretti Parish, with occasional offsite work as approved. The role requires flexibility, including availability during evenings, weekends, and holidays in accordance with parish activities and the liturgical calendar.
