Description

Summary

The Background Investigator works directly under the Director of Compliance, aiding in preliminary applicant investigations to ensure regulatory compliance with the Federal and State regulations and Tribal Gaming Ordinance.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct background investigations for initial applicants; renewal, promotion, transfer, and driver investigations for employees; checking references, employment, and gaming license verifications; utilizing investigatory software to process provided information, financial investigations, investigative reports indicating the investigative steps taken and results. 
  • Meet with applicants and employees, presenting and reviewing applications, re-interviewing applicants and employees, taking fingerprints, notarizing documents, creating badges, creating employee files, completing the licensing process.
  • Update database(s), sending notifications for new licensees, terminations, transfers, promotions, LOA, updated information, replacement licenses, PAN form information, filing.
  • Meet with employees for 30-day agreements, disclosure of information, providing employees with gaming licenses, and credit reports. Communicate with Human Resources, casino employees, and Management.

If none of the applicants should meet the stated qualifications, applicants whose education and experience are less than the stated requirements, may be interviewed and hired provided the applicant hired submits a formal written training plan within (30) thirty days which can be completed within a reasonable time agreed upon by the supervisor and the applicant. Applicants who are hired and fail to meet the agreed upon formal training program, will be discharged upon failure to complete the specified training as so scheduled.

Requirements

Qualifications/Education/Experience

  • Cannot be related to anyone working for Augustine Enterprises.
  • Must possess a High School Diploma or GED. 
  • Bilingual in both Spanish and English is required. 
  • A degree in Criminal Justice, Gaming, Administration of Justice, Business, or any closely related field is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a Gaming environment in addition to the preferred Education Requirements listed above.
  • Required to possess a Notary Public appointment by the State of California and a Fingerprint Roller certificate. The Augustine Gaming Commission will provide the necessary time and training to meet this requirement.
  • Must obtain and maintain an Augustine Gaming License.

Competencies and Annual Requirements 

  • Able to uphold a high level of confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of investigative techniques and principles.
  • Knowledge of ethical considerations in a regulatory and government environment.
  • Knowledge of Federal (including NIGC), State, Tribal Internal Controls, laws, rules, regulations, and policies regarding Class II and Class III Games.
  • Skilled in preparing and maintaining reports and documentation necessary for regulatory enforcement of the Secretarial Procedures and Tribal Gaming Ordinance.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and related software (such as MS Word, Excel, and Access) to maintain a Live Scan fingerprinting system, database, and records.
  • Obtain and maintain a Fingerprint Roller Certification.
  • Obtain and maintain a Notary Public appointment by the State.
  • Receive and maintain an Augustine gaming License
