Summary
St. Mark the Evangelist is seeking a talented and experienced Musician/Cantor to support and direct the Spanish-language Choir during Mass and other liturgical events as necessary. The Musician/Cantor will be responsible for animating the Sunday Liturgy and providing the musical environment for worship and reflection.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Directs the Spanish-language Choir during Masses, including hymns, musical aspects of the Order of Mass, anthems, and special music.
- Schedule Cantors for Masses and other services.
- Coordinate and lead rehearsals of the choir at agreed upon day/time.
- Select music for Masses, liturgies and special services, in coordination with the Coordinator of Music Ministry.
- Copy and distribute music to Choir members.
- Recruit new members to join the Choir.
- Provide musical support to a prayerful environment; fosters a rich musical presence within the parish.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High School degree or equivalent
- Bilingual; fluent in Spanish.
- Knowledge of sacred music.
- Basic understanding of music theory.
- Ability to read music.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate well with others, especially church staff, and members of the music ministry, choir and parish.
- Ability to work in a team environment, fostering a positive work experience.
- Meet all Archdiocesan employment requirements.
- Provide proof of valid driver's license and insurance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in music, Liturgy and related field.
- Previous experience/knowledge of Roman Catholic Liturgy including the Missal, Order of Mass, or other liturgical documents.
Physical Demands/Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and occasionally required to climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may frequently lift and move up to 35 pounds. The noise level is moderate in the office environment.
