THE OPPORTUNITY  

The Director of Corporate Communications will lead the organization’s corporate communications strategy, ensuring consistent messaging and storytelling across internal and external audiences. Working closely with the SVP of Global Communications and executive leadership, this role will bring the organization’s vision and strategic priorities to life through impactful communications.

The Director will lead stakeholder relations, executive profiling, and media relations, positioning the organization and Los Angeles as leading voices in tourism while building strong relationships with elected officials, community leaders, business partners, and local and national media.

This role will also oversee the Senior Manager of Corporate Communications, providing leadership, coaching, and development, while supporting crisis communications and issues management, including executive preparedness and response.


WHAT YOU WILL DO 

Strategy and Alignment (25%):


  • Manage the strategic corporate communications function, ensuring alignment of messaging, voice, and storytelling across all organizational stakeholder communications. 
  • Partner closely with the SVP of Global Communications to align corporate communications priorities with the organization's broader global communications strategy, ensuring a cohesive narrative across internal and external audiences. 
  • Works closely with executive leadership to develop and execute corporate communications initiatives that bring the Company's vision, mission, and strategic priorities to life. This includes spearheading a refreshed stakeholder newsletter strategy, in collaboration with the Senior Manager, Corporate Communications, to strengthen engagement with key audiences and advance organizational objectives. 


Stakeholder Relations & Executive Profiling (25%):


  • Collaborate with the CEO and Chief Stakeholder Officer to underscore the tourism industry’s indispensable contribution to Los Angeles by developing a comprehensive communications strategy to educate elected officials, community leaders, the business community and LA residents about the significant role tourism has to the LA economy. 
  • Identify and support key speaking engagement opportunities for LA Tourism CEO, senior leadership team and board members to generate support and advocacy for the tourism industry across the community. 


Media Relations & Industry Thought Leadership ( 20%):


  • Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with local and national media across print, digital, broadcast, and emerging platforms that cover tourism, travel, hospitality, and business sectors. 
  • Leverages an established network of industry contacts to position Los Angeles and LA Tourism as leading voices in the tourism industry, ensuring the destination is consistently included in relevant news coverage, trend stories, and thought leadership opportunities. 
  • Maintains and strengthens relationships with local broadcast media, ensuring ongoing engagement and visibility for the organization and its key initiatives. 


People Leadership & Development (15%):


  • Supervises the Sr. Manager of Corporate Communications, including all training, development, mentoring, and associated performance management. 


Crisis Management and Response (10%):


  • Working alongside the SVP, Global Communications on issues and crisis management. 
  • Maintains organization’s crisis communications plan and conducts regular training of organization executives on crisis response.
  •  In the event of a crisis, help support the Crisis Management Team response.


Perform other duties as assigned (5%):


SOME OTHER THINGS YOU MAY DO 


  • Work with Sales to create brand messaging for events covered by Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board.
  • Attend domestic Trade Shows.


WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED 


  • Minimum of 6-8 years of relevant experience.
  • Previous experience with the development and execution of tourism initiatives directly related to the UN SDGs, including tourism master plans, strongly preferred.  
  • Prior experience with a DMO, Tourism Board, or similar organization, as well as collaborating with civic stakeholders/elected officials, strongly preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license and be able to drive a vehicle for work-related travel as needed and as applicable to the position. 
  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Must be willing to partake in a comprehensive background check, including a drug test in accordance with applicable laws. 
  • Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Dependable, great attitude, highly motivated and a team player. 
  • Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively across various departments.
  • Ability to work in a changing environment.


NICE TO HAVES


  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. 
  • Agency experience.


COMPENSATION RANGE


Exact compensation may vary based on skills and experience.

$125,000 - $150,000
