Job Title: Driver of Refuse and Recycling Truck
Reports to: Fleet Supervisor
Job Purpose
Provides the safe, efficient and courteous collection and transportation of waste and recyclables, while supervising other drivers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates single and/or dual axle truck in a safe, efficient and courteous manner collecting, transporting and off-loading waste and recyclables from residences, businesses and other facilities.
- Treats customers, co-workers, supervisor, and the public in a courteous and respectful manner.
- Operates equipment in a manner that prevents damage and unnecessary wear.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining efficient collection routes.
- Perform daily safety and maintenance checks, and ensure equipment is safe and put away securely.
- Advise maintenance workers of any need for maintenance or repairs.
- Clean trucks inside and out as scheduled and as needed.
- Follows policies and procedures including accurate record keeping.
- As directed adjust work scheduled to meet the needs of the business.
- Learns safety protocols and works in a safe manner.
- Delivers containers to customers as directed.
- Protects organizations value by not sharing customer information inappropriately and by only passing concerns and complaints through proper channels.
- Other duties assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
Education: High school graduation preferred.
Skills: Innate sense of spatial positioning of truck within its surroundings.
Abilities: Ability to be safe, not damage equipment, follows policies/procedures, record daily information.
Personal Characteristics: Even temperament, treating others well, commitment to work, read and speak English.
Certifications: Pass and maintain DOT drug screen requirements; Class B CDL license with air brake endorsement; DOT qualification per 49 CFR; HRR MVR qualifications.
Experience: 2 years of driving experience.
Working Environment
The work environment includes getting repeatedly in and out of a truck, in traffic busy and isolated areas in all weather: hot, cold, rain, sleet snow, wind, dark, bright, slippery, etc.
Physical Requirements
The job about 90% of the time involves repeated truck driving, stopping, backing, lifting, and unloading which all require safety diligence, driving fines uses of all senses in challenging environments including exposure to dirt, noise, odors, and adverse weather. Many routes require repeated lifting of material weighing 70 pounds or moving wheeled containers weighing hundreds of pounds.
