Department for Persons with Disabilities (DPD) is one of the largest Catholic Charities Agencies providing care for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the United States. We are looking for dedicated, caring and compassionate people to work in our Group Homes.


REPORTS TO: Executive Director

This position is a director-level supervisor and is accountable to the Executive Director. The Director of Operations delegates daily assignments for designated maintenance staff and volunteers. 


HOURS: 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday, typically between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, with flexibility to meet the needs of the department and programs. This is an exempt position.

On an Emergency Basis: Can be called in to work in the event of an emergency for example, inclement weather, structural or systems damage on properties, etc.


Pay: $75-80k, based on experience


This position is responsible to oversee all DPD operations including facilities and fleet management as well as the ability to perform all maintenance type tasks at the direction of the administration. The employee will cooperate with the agency's administration, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson and/or Division of Developmental Disabilities and the Department staff in any inspection, investigation or inquiry. 


Job Tasks:

1. To oversee, organize, and schedule repair of all general maintenance and improvements in the facilities. Will manage/supervise all staff in the department.

2. To oversee, organize, and schedule repair of all agency vehicles in the fleet.

3. To purchase new vehicles as needed, to ensure vehicles are in good working order and replaced when indicated.

4. To obtain all outside estimates for contractor/vendor work for facility or fleet repairs and to work with other maintenance staff to achieve this.

5. Ensure all policies and procedures are followed for estimates over a certain dollar amount, and all are obtained in accordance with the Catholic Charities procurement procedure.

6. To ensure all outside vendors comply with insurance requirements and supply needed documents prior to commencing any work.

7. To keep organized electronic records of all estimates and projects.

8. Implement and oversee online tracking platforms for all maintenance requests and fleet management portal.

9. Develop and manage annual/routine maintenance task list/calendar to ensure completion if needed maintenance and replacement of equipment as indicated. Utilize agency’s maintenance portal system.

10. Will assist in all maintenance type tasks as needed.

11. Assist with set up and break down for agency functions.

12. To ensure routine safety checks in all programs to eliminate potential hazards to staff and consumers.

13. Will be present for any municipal or state facility inspections as requested.

14. Interface with Catholic Charities staff across all agencies to share ideas, realize cost efficiencies and to collaborate in support of Catholic Charities.

15. Perform any and all duties designated by the Executive Director or designee.

a. The Director of Operations must be familiar with and comply with all agencies, Catholic Charities/Diocese of Paterson and DDD policies and procedures for staff and people living in the home.

b. Must comply with all laws, Medicaid standards and other regulatory requirements.

c. The Director of Operations must have a physical exam prior to employment and obtain a Mantoux test or free from TB contagion clearance. Must meet fingerprint requirements, checks of criminal background, the central registry, the child abuse registry, and drug test requirements.

d. This job requires a person that will be extremely dependable, as people's lives depend on the support of the staff. The staff must be prompt and must have transportation arranged so he/she will be able to get to the job in all weather conditions.

e. Written suggestions including changing the job description may be submitted to the Executive Director at any time and will be reviewed by the administration.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: Associates or Bachelor’s Degree and minimum three years’ experience in facility/fleet management. Working knowledge of tools and maintenance methods. Project management experience preferred. Must have a driver's license, which is valid in the State of New Jersey and points on license not to exceed 5 points. Required to drive agency vehicles. Should have knowledge of, or willingness to learn computer programs.

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: High degree of physical capability and mobility, excellent organizational skills, sensitivity to the cultural differences present in people living or working in the programs.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Catholic Charities-DPD programs, Catholic Charities/Diocesan properties located throughout the Diocese of Paterson. Coordinating with maintenance staff and administration to address all operations including facility, fleet and maintenance needs of the organization for all facilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to operate tools and maintenance equipment. Move furniture, Snow removal on walkways, driveways and vehicles. Various construction projects including but not limited to minor repairs, electrical and plumbing. Ability to lift 40+ lbs. and perform physical maintenance tasks.

HORIZONTAL AND OUTSIDE RELATIONSHIPS: This position works cooperatively with other staff. Will interface with external contractors, vendors, local and state officials.

TRANSPORTATION AND REPORTING: Traveling to and from various locations will be required. The individual's workday commences with the arrival at the designated work location. Those hours will be credited towards the workday. It is the responsibility of the individual to be prepared for the given assignment prior to arriving at the designated work site.

TRAINING REQUIRMENTS: To complete the orientation process and to fulfill all required training within the specified time period. These include, but are not limited to all state mandated trainings via the College of Direct Support, as well as agency specific/Catholic Charities/Diocese of Paterson trainings, as directed to do so by the supervisor or Human Resources staff. Must renew certifications as required. Must meet the annual continuing education training requirements.
