Position Summary

Family Healthcare of Hagerstown is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Housekeeper to maintain a clean, safe, sanitary, orderly, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The Housekeeper performs general housekeeping duties throughout Family Healthcare facilities and reports directly to the Operations Manager. This position supports and follows the vision, mission, goals, and objectives of Family Healthcare of Hagerstown.


Responsibilities and Duties

Environmental Cleaning and Infection Control

  • Cleans and disinfects exam tables, dental chairs, chair bases, waiting room seating, and other patient-care surfaces daily.
  • Disinfects countertops, sinks, cabinets, fixtures, and equipment in exam rooms, dental operatories, laboratory areas, and other clinical spaces.
  • Vacuums and mops floors in clinical and patient-care areas according to housekeeping protocols.
  • Cleans bathrooms daily using approved disinfectants and infection control procedures.
  • Cleans and disinfects toys and shared patient-use items according to established protocols.
  • Spot cleans windows, artwork, light fixtures, vents, and other surfaces as needed.
  • Cleans elevators and disinfects high-touch surfaces daily.

Facility Maintenance

  • Vacuums carpeted areas and removes stains or spots as needed.
  • Cleans offices, hallways, stairways, and common areas according to housekeeping schedules.
  • Wipes door handles, light switches, doors, window ledges, and blinds according to established cleaning protocols.
  • Maintains beverage stations, including cleaning countertops, sinks, and equipment.
  • Ensures soap, paper towel, and toilet paper dispensers remain stocked throughout the facility.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean, professional appearance throughout all Family Healthcare locations.

Waste Management and Supply Control

  • Empties, cleans, relines, and transports trash from designated areas according to infection control and housekeeping procedures.
  • Breaks down boxes and disposes of waste properly.
  • Maintains housekeeping supplies and reports inventory needs to the supervisor.
  • Utilizes cleaning supplies and equipment efficiently to minimize waste.
  • Washes cleaning cloths, rags, and mop heads in accordance with infection control guidelines.

Safety and Compliance

  • Performs job duties in accordance with organizational policies, infection control standards, OSHA requirements, and safety guidelines.
  • Uses cleaning chemicals safely and according to manufacturer instructions and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Reports safety concerns, hazards, accidents, or equipment malfunctions promptly.
  • Properly utilizes personal protective equipment (PPE) and housekeeping equipment.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and organizational information.

Professionalism and Customer Service

  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and professional demeanor with patients, visitors, and coworkers.
  • Responds courteously to questions and directs concerns to appropriate personnel when necessary.
  • Works independently and manages time effectively to complete assigned duties.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Position Qualifications


Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience

  • Six months of previous commercial or professional building cleaning experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of environmental cleanliness and infection control practices preferred.

Licensure/Certifications

  • No specific licensure required.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to perform heavy-duty cleaning tasks.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work from step ladders safely.
  • Manual dexterity to operate housekeeping and floor care equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

Physical and Mental Effort

Physical

Heavy physical effort is required. Position involves constant standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Requires lifting up to 50 pounds and use of manual skills requiring motor coordination. Appropriate protective equipment must be worn as required.


Mental

Frequent concentration and attention to detail are required. Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and adapt to varying daily assignments.


Sensory

Must be able to communicate effectively in spoken English and possess the ability to read, write, and understand English. Normal vision and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, are required to perform essential job functions.


Environmental and Working Conditions

Work is performed in a healthcare environment with daily interaction with patients, visitors, and staff. The position may involve exposure to hazardous chemicals, biological materials, odors, dirt, noise, weather conditions, and other environmental factors associated with routine housekeeping operations. Flexible work hours may occasionally be required. Employees are expected to comply with all infection control, OSHA, safety, and confidentiality requirements.
