ABOUT THE PRODUCT MARKETING MANAGER ROLE
Reporting to the VP, Open edX® Partnerships & Ecosystem Growth, the Product Marketing Manager will work with the team to execute the go-to-market marketing strategies to build demand for the Open edX® platform. This includes building awareness and driving adoption in target market segments and against specific market opportunities. The Product Marketing Manager will be responsible for product marketing support for the Open edX® Project, including content marketing, demand generation, and events management. You will also work closely with the marketing leads of Open edX’s partner ecosystem, business development and product teams to identify market opportunities and drive marketing execution.
We are looking for a hands-on, execution-driven marketer who thrives in a builder role. The ideal candidate brings experience marketing technical products, LMS/SMS platforms, or publishing solutions, with a strong focus on driving product adoption and collaborating effectively across partner ecosystems.
Axim is headquartered in the heart of Kendall Square in Cambridge, MA. This role may be hybrid (for an employee based in MA, ME, NH, RI or VT) or remote (for an employee based in CO, MD or MI). This role requires travel to 6-8 events per year, including some international travel. Additionally, all staff are required to attend in-person programming in Axim’s Cambridge, MA office three times a year.
Core Responsibilities
Product Marketing for Open edX® and Related Market-Facing Solutions
- Execute product marketing across the core Open edX® platform and solution bundles for distributed through 3rd-party service providers.
- Develop and maintain positioning, messaging and toolkits for the core platform and named partner solutions, keeping pace with the roadmap.
- Translate product and technical updates into clear, compelling value propositions–what it is and why it fits–for key buyer personas.
- Tailor value propositions to distinct buyer segments: higher ed, workforce development, enterprise Learning and Development.
- Implement the Open edX® brand voice and messaging framework, maintaining consistent positioning across all channels.
- Use competitive intelligence to sharpen positioning and identify opportunities to serve unmet market needs focused on learner impact.
- Deliver market input into new features and partner-built solutions along with Product, Engineering, and ecosystem partners.
- Mobilize the Open edX® Marketing Working Group, harnessing their collective talent, time, and domain expertise to execute GTM campaigns and scale outreach.
Content Marketing and Demand Generation
- Contribute content to build brand awareness and lead generation across blog, newsletter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and search and generative engine optimization (SEO/GEO).
- Own and execute the content calendar supporting brand and demand generation goals across those channels.
- Drive SEO and LLM-discoverability strategy for openedx.org and report against KPIs.
- Co-develop case studies, partner success stories, and other proof-point content with adopting institutions and partners.
- Build lead-generation assets (webinars, gated content, nurture sequences) tied to demand-gen campaigns.
Events Management
- Support Axim and Open edX's presence at target higher-education and workforce-development conferences, from calls for proposal (CFP) through follow-up.
- Help maintain the conference and events tracking calendar in collaboration with the broader marketing team.
- Develop event collateral and coordinate logistics with sponsors and partners.
- Capture and repurpose event content back into the broader content pipeline.
- Track event-driven leads and attendee follow-through into the demand-gen funnel.
Basic Qualifications:
- Passion for education access and equity, and alignment with Axim's mission.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Excellent communication skills, written, verbal, and public speaking, with the ability to represent an organization credibly to senior external audiences.
- 4+ years in product marketing, with experience marketing a platform or technical product (edtech, SaaS, or open-source a plus).
- Comfort translating technical/platform capability into buyer-facing messaging for multiple segments.
- Hands-on content creation and content-calendar management experience.
- SEO literacy and familiarity with AI-referrer/LLM-discoverability required.
- Experience supporting conference/event marketing, from planning through follow-up.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Familiarity with the Open edX® ecosystem, higher ed, or workforce development strongly preferred.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience in a marketing role for an LMS (Learning Management System) or SMS (Student Management System) provider.
- Experience in the education technology (edtech) sector and familiarity with the Open edX® platform or similar open-source learning platforms, particularly learning management systems or higher education institutions.
- International experience or cultural fluency, given the global nature of the Open edX® platform service provider ecosystem.
This role is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
