Description

Essential Purpose: To perform and manage the safe, accurate, and efficient application of pesticides, fertilizers, wetting agents, plant growth regulators, and other turfgrass products used in maintaining the golf course, practice facilities, landscaped areas, and resort grounds. The Spray Technician supports the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents by executing the agronomic spray program, maintaining application records, monitoring turf conditions, and ensuring compliance with all federal, state, local, and company regulations.

 Essential Duties:

  • Prepare, mix, calibrate, and apply pesticides, fertilizers, wetting agents, plant growth regulators, and other approved turfgrass products according to label instructions and department standards.
  • Operate spray equipment safely and efficiently, including boom sprayers, hand sprayers, backpack sprayers, utility vehicles, and related application equipment.
  • Calibrate spray equipment regularly to ensure accurate application rates and proper coverage.
  • Maintain detailed records of all pesticide and fertilizer applications, including product used, rate, area treated, weather conditions, and application timing.
  • Monitor golf course turf, landscaped areas, and ornamental plantings for signs of disease, insect activity, weed pressure, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental stress.
  • Communicate observations and recommendations regarding turf conditions to the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents.
  • Assist in implementing the golf course’s integrated pest management (IPM) program.
  • Maintain inventory of pesticides, fertilizers, adjuvants, and application supplies; notify management when reordering is needed.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, labeling, and disposal of chemicals and containers in accordance with all regulations.
  • Clean and maintain spray equipment, mixing areas, storage facilities, and personal protective equipment after each use.
  • Follow all safety procedures related to chemical handling, mixing, application, spill response, and equipment operation.
  • Assist with irrigation troubleshooting, moisture management, and general golf course maintenance tasks when spray operations are complete.
  • Support tournament preparation and special events by ensuring playing surfaces meet established quality standards.
  • Respond to guest concerns in a timely and professional manner when directed.
  • To promote & comply with all policies and procedures of Temecula Creek Inn.
  • To immediately report all suspicious occurrences, hazardous conditions, spills, or safety concerns.
  • To maintain the cleanliness and safety of work areas at all times.
  • To practice safe work habits at all times to avoid injury to self and others, including compliance with company and departmental safety rules and regulations, and the proper use and handling of all relevant equipment.
  • To attend all mandatory meetings, as directed.
  • To perform other tasks, including cross-training, as directed.
Requirements

Knowledge + Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. A minimum of two years of golf course maintenance experience preferred. Experience with pesticide and fertilizer application equipment preferred. California Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) or Qualified Applicator License (QAL) required, or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.Thorough knowledge of turfgrass species, common turf diseases, insects, weeds, fertilizers, soil chemistry, and accepted cultural practices. Knowledge of pesticide labels, application rates, compatibility, calibration procedures, and environmental stewardship practices. Familiarity with OSHA, SB198, local Department of Health regulations, and current laws governing the handling and application of hazardous substances. English fluency required; Spanish fluency helpful.

Physical Demands: Stands/walks approximately 70% of shift. May be required to walk up to 2 miles per shift. Sits/drives approximately 30% of shift. Occasionally required to handle and move objects weighing up to 80 lbs. over short distances. Bends, stoops, reaches, and lifts to perform routine job tasks. Flexibility and good reflexes required to operate power driven machinery. Must be able to withstand prolonged exposure to sun.
