Put Your Administrative Experience Behind a Mission That Matters

Strong public safety operations depend on a strong team behind the scenes.

The Senior Administrative Assistant plays an important role in the day-to-day operations of the Gunnison County Sheriff's Office, providing direct administrative support to command staff while managing records, information, financial transactions, criminal-justice systems, public inquiries, and other essential departmental processes.

This isn't a traditional administrative position. You'll work with information and processes that directly support law enforcement operations, the courts, partner agencies, Sheriff's Office employees, and the community.

If you're organized, dependable, detail-oriented, comfortable handling sensitive information, and able to keep multiple priorities moving, this could be a great opportunity to put your experience to work in public service.

More Than Administrative Support

As a Senior Administrative Assistant, you'll become a trusted resource within the Sheriff's Office and help keep important administrative and operational processes moving accurately and efficiently.

Your work will include:

  • Providing administrative and clerical support to Sheriff's Office command staff
  • Maintaining official departmental records and filing systems
  • Preparing correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other materials
  • Receiving and assisting members of the public and responding to inquiries
  • Processing payments, financial records, invoices, receipts, and other transactions
  • Maintaining and processing sealed records
  • Preparing reports and records for the District Attorney's Office through eDiscovery
  • Preparing body-worn camera footage for the District Attorney's Office
  • Maintaining Patrol and Investigation records, including incident reports, civil process records, warrants, writs, and related documentation
  • Supporting civil-process and Sheriff's sale documentation
  • Assisting with purchasing, supplies, work orders, mail, scheduling, and other administrative functions

The position requires accuracy, discretion, sound judgment, customer service, and the ability to manage sensitive information while working with employees, partner agencies, and the public.

Work With Criminal Justice Systems & Records

One of the things that makes this position unique is its involvement with specialized law-enforcement records and systems.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating National Crime Information Center/Colorado Crime Information Center (NCIC/CCIC) functions
  • Entering and modifying felony warrants, vehicles, missing-person records, evidence/personal property, and other information
  • Maintaining the integrity of the system and instructing and testing new operators
  • Entering Uniform Crime Reports
  • Maintaining and monitoring sex-offender registry information
  • Processing concealed handgun permits, including fingerprinting
  • Preparing records and returns for the courts
  • Assisting deputies with research related to found property and civil-paper locations

These responsibilities make accuracy, confidentiality, attention to detail, and good judgment especially important in this position.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for an experienced administrative professional who can combine technical skill, customer service, discretion, and organization.

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Are highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Can manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy
  • Communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Are comfortable learning and working within specialized computer and records systems
  • Exercise sound judgment when handling confidential or sensitive information
  • Are comfortable working directly with members of the public
  • Can remain professional and effective during stressful situations
  • Work well independently while also being a dependable member of a team
  • Have experience with administrative records, bookkeeping, data processing, or related office functions
  • Enjoy being the person others rely on to keep information and processes organized

The job description specifically calls for working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing, modern office practices, accounting principles, accurate cashiering, strong public-facing communication, and the ability to handle stressful situations.
