What We Need (Job Summary)
The Staff Pharmacist provides clinical, operational, and regulatory dispensing support for the pharmacy, reporting directly to the Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC). The Staff Pharmacist is responsible for the safe and accurate dispensing of medications, clinical reviews, patient counseling, and specialty pharmacy care management. Working collaboratively with patient care coordinators, healthcare providers, and care teams, this role executes specialty care planning, medication reconciliation, therapy monitoring, and disease state education.
With a strong commitment to health equity, the Staff Pharmacist delivers affirming, culturally competent care tailored to diverse and marginalized populations, including individuals living with HIV, those at risk for STDs/STIs, the LGBTQ+ community, and medically underserved patients. Additionally, the Staff Pharmacist supports the Patient Care Coordinators with compliance to ensure operational efficiency and flawless prescription fulfillment.
What You’ll Do (Essential Job Functions)
- Ensuring continuous compliance with appropriate State Board of Pharmacy rules, DEA controlled substance guidelines, USP standards, and federal/state regulations.
- Oversee daily pharmacy dispensing operations, staff scheduling, workflow optimization, inventory procurement, and quality assurance protocols.
- Ensures the accurate dispensing of prescriptions while adhering to regulatory guidelines and safety protocols.
- Provide comprehensive patient medication counseling, disease education, adherence support, administration guidance, side-effect management, and proper storage/disposal instructions.
- Communicate directly with prescribers, healthcare providers, and case managers to clarify orders, resolve clinical interventions, document care plans, and ensure continuity of patient care.
- Conduct initial patient care plans for all new specialty medication patients prior to dispensing, assessing medical history, lab results (renal/hepatic function), allergies, comorbidities, and vaccine status.
- Perform comprehensive medication reconciliations, disease education, adherence counseling, administration instruction, side-effect management, and storage/disposal guidance.
- Conduct initial specialty care plans and structured 180-day follow-up reassessments, evaluating medical history, lab results (renal/hepatic function), comorbidities, vaccine status, and patient-reported outcomes.
- Document patient-reported outcomes, missed doses, pain scales, quality of life metrics, and log/report adverse events to prescribing physicians based on severity.
- Establish tailored goals of therapy with patients and conduct structured follow-up reassessments every 180 days (or upon therapy changes/patient request).
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely patient records, controlled substance logs, clinical intervention notes, and pharmacy documentation in compliance with HIPAA privacy and USP standards.
- While on duty, supervise, coach, and evaluate pharmacy staff, and patient care coordinators fostering a high-performance, culturally competent, and patient-centered environment.

What We Require (Required Qualifications)
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an ACPE- degree from an ACPE-accredited institution.
- Active Pharmacist license is in good standing in your state of residence.
- Registered with the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, or State Board of Pharmacy.
- 3-5 years of retail or clinical pharmacy experience, preferrable serving diverse and marginalized communities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state pharmacy laws, DEA regulations, USP guidelines, and HIPAA rules, alongside proficiency in pharmacy dispensing software (e.g., PioneerRx and Therigy), EHR/EMR platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience delivering pharmaceutical care to LGBTQ+ populations, with a commitment to acquiring foundational knowledge of LGBTQ+ concepts, terminology, and intersectionality.
- Experience supporting HIV-serving, public health, community-based, or LGBTQ+ non-profit organizations delivering comprehensive pharmaceutical care or in partnership with 340B covered entities, with a commitment to acquiring foundational knowledge of LGBTQ+ concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, train, and mentor cross-functional pharmacy staff while optimizing staffing models, inventory procurement, and productivity benchmarks.
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service, managerial, and communication skills with the ability to establish rapport with patients and provide culturally sensitive care.
- Able to efficiently operate in a fast-paced environment while fostering positive customer relations
- Proven track record of handling confidential, time-critical information with professional discretion.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for regular travel between pharmacy locations.
What We Prefer (Preferred Qualifications)
- Active pharmacist licensure across multiple states, and professional credentials such as AAHIVP (or willingness to obtain), CSP, BCPS, CPEL, or ASHP Leadership Certifications.
- Comprehensive expertise in Section 340B statutes, HRSA audit protocols, contract pharmacy replenishment models, TPA mechanics, Medicaid duplicate discount prevention, and managing 340B covered entity relationships (Ryan White grantees, FQHCs, DSH hospitals).
- 5–7+ years of progressive retail, clinical, or specialty pharmacy experience with a history of scaling specialty/mail-order capabilities, navigating multi-state regulations, and building centralized hubs.
- Previous Pharmacist-in-Charge experience managing a team of Patient Care Coordinators.
- Direct experience providing clinical care, drug information, and therapy monitoring for HIV-impacted, LGBTQ+, and public health patient populations in non-profit or community-focused healthcare settings.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills suited for presenting complex regulatory data and conducting training for diverse audiences.
