We are looking for a technically curious, detail-oriented Part-Time Hardware & Device Test Engineer to support the testing and validation of connected medical alert and mobile personal emergency response system (mPERS) devices.This is a hands-on engineering role working with real production and pre-production connected devices, including cellular-enabled pendants, smartwatches, wearable devices, charging accessories, and related hardware.The individual will work closely with our Product & Technology team and support testing of both new hardware products and firmware/software updates to existing products.
· Execute structured test plans against new firmware releases and hardware revisions.
· Perform functional and regression testing to verify that existing features continue to work after firmware changes.
· Test pre-production engineering samples during hardware development and validation.
· Reproduce reported device problems and document the conditions under which issues occur.
· Compare behavior across hardware versions, firmware versions, device configurations, and cellular networks.
· Retest defects after engineering or vendor fixes are delivered.
· Test devices using major U.S. cellular networks and multiple SIM configurations.
· Validate device activation, network registration, incoming and outgoing calls, SMS commands, and data communication.
· Assist with troubleshooting configuration, APN, SIM, and cellular-network-related issues.
· Capture test details and logs needed for escalation to hardware manufacturers, module suppliers, and engineering teams.
· Document defects with clear reproduction steps and supporting evidence.
· Capture photos, video, logs, screenshots, call information, and other supporting data when useful.
· Maintain test checklists and regression-test results.
· Functional testing of engineering samples.
· Battery and charging testing.
· Audio and speaker testing.
· Button and user-interface behavior.
Qualification:
· Hands-on experience troubleshooting electronic devices.
· Understanding of basic electronics and computer hardware.
· Familiarity with firmware, embedded systems, IoT devices, or microcontrollers.
· Familiarity with cellular technologies, SIM cards, LTE, Bluetooth, GPS/GNSS, or wireless communications.
· Ability to methodically isolate variables when troubleshooting a problem.
· Comfort working with spreadsheets and structured test documentation.
· Ability to read technical specifications and follow engineering test procedures.
Experience with tools such as serial consoles, AT commands, log files, command-line utilities, APIs, Python, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, oscilloscopes, multimeters, or similar engineering tools is a plus, not a requirement.
